First Official Photos of Ford's Taurus Police Interceptor, will Replace Crown Victoria

|

The end of the line is coming soon for the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor as Ford today released the first official images of its replacement based on the latest generation Taurus sedan.

We don't have all the details yet but it is assumed that the company will most likely offer the Taurus Interceptor in two guises, a front-wheel drive model with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and top-spec model based on the SHO with all-wheel drive and the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost.

Ford, which currently controls approximately 75 percent of the police pursuit vehicle business in the U.S selling approximately 45,000 vehicles to the boys in blue, said that the Taurus-based Police Interceptor will be offered without interruption when production of the Ford Crown Victoria ends in late 2011.

We remind you that last year General Motors revealed its Police Car proposal based on the Australian Holden Statesman, a more luxurious, long-wheelbase version of the Pontiac G8 / Holden Commodore.

Called the 2011 Chevy Caprice (click here for photos and details), GM's rear-wheel drive police car will be offered with with a 355HP 6.0-liter V8.

I could just see Robo Cop stepping out of that!

Why is the 3rd pic a photo taken somewhere in Europe? Italy perhaps? And the front sure does look like a Camry... no?

But still looks great and shame they can't build on with the CV... :( I don't want it to go! Would like to import one to Australia if possible! :D

i have come to like the dodge charger police vehicle. we have them in my town, county and state. the dodge with police package is available in a v6 and i think two v8's for 2010. in the next year, we will see more engine options and awd (not currently available in police guise) or rwd.

lol check out the bucket seats! Now imagine the driver on a turn in a high speed chase hahahahahaha

.....ummm, don't get the bucket seat comment? Imagine the driver with his belt on (gun, cuffs, etc) and now imagine him fitting into a highly bolstered bucket seat. Haha?

It's a shame Ford Australia didn't pull a Holden and export into left hand drive countries.

The US cops could be cruising in RWD 4.0 turbo V6's and/or 5.4 V8s and it probably wouldn't spell the end of the Falcon as we know it.

Damn shame.

It doesnt need to be a racing bucket seat... A normal production car bucket seat will be just fine! But to answer your question, how do the cops seat in the Gallardo or the Impreza or the Skyline or the Focus ST and so many other sport cars all over the world?

So yeah, those seats are unacceptable for a cop car which is about to get into high speed chases. But to be honest i wasnt surprised at all...

no one said a police car has to look pretty. this one does not.

Do not like FWD police cars. We traded our fleet in for 2010 Dodge Chargers with Chrysler's awesome HEMI V8. The Impalas we had were disasters. FMC: Stick with trucks.

lol the third picture isn't in europe, that's miami

Not only it not good looking, it looks kinda dorky like those Japanese cars. I agree the police version of the Charger look a lot better and more menacing in my opinion.

It aint Miami. The car behind is too small to be in the US and its license plate is European.

And not a moment to soon. Once the weather warms up, our country's finest will need these to chase all the disgruntled unemployed blue collar types in their Camaro convertibles and new Mustang 5.0's. That is until they're repossesed of course. You can't move too fast in a trailer

@one of the Anonymous posters:
Ford Australia Falcons (and the Territory SUV) use a straight six, not a V6. But the XR6T (the performance turbo version) is a nice car.
It is a shame that Ford US will not LET Ford Australia export Falcons... I wonder why? Scared of the competition, perhaps?

It is a FIAT Punto behind the Ford!

That´s Italy.

Could be, either way, Ford photoshoped the Taurus into the picture

Booooooooo!!! I want to see this try to jump a curb.

Have to agree.. US Police forces should Deal Direct with Ford Australia, this is sheer madness. They could order the Ford Falcon V8 or turb0 6. Theyre faster, larger, safer, handle better, more comfortable and rear wheel drive.
Thats not a Police car.... now this is what you call a Police car.
