[Updated with New Photos] Infiniti (officially) pulled the wraps off its all-new 2011 QX56 full-size SUV at the New York International Auto Show. Bigger and brawnier than its predecessor, the second-generation QX is based on the recently revealed 2011 Nissan Patrol. Infiniti's version features a unique front and end treatment, but the rest of the body has remained virtually unchanged.
"The look is clearly Infiniti with its signature Infiniti grille, broad shoulders and large greenhouse," says Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Business Unit. "It's rugged, sophisticated and completely captivating." Well, we'll let you be the judge of that.
Styling aside, the new QX features revised dimensions versus the previous model as it is 1.4-inches longer, 1.1-inches wider and 3.8-inches lower in overall height.
Infiniti claims that the QX56's cabin is unique and almost out-of-this-world. Even so, there are no significant differences between the interiors of the Patrol and the Q56.
"If you could take the interior of a private jet and transform it into a full-size SUV, this wouldn't be far off," said Poore.
"From its available sofa-like semi-aniline leather seating to its premium audio and three-source entertainment systems, the QX interior is world-class. It's a highly adaptive environment, with a quality and quietness that adds to the stress-free driving and riding experience."
The new QX features standard 7-passenger seating capacity, with 8-passenger capacity available with the 2nd row 60/40-split folding bench seat. Also available is a remote release for the 2nd row seats to activate the tip-up function through a switch on the center stack. The 3rd row seat is a 60/40-split power folding design with reclining capability.
Like its sister Nissan model, the 2011 QX56 is powered by a new 5.6-liter V8 engine with direct-injection technology that's rated at 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. Despite the 25% increase in horsepower over the previous QX, Infiniti claims that the new model is more than 10% more fuel efficient.
The V8 unit is hooked up to a standard 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) and manual shift mode with Downshift Rev Match.
The QX is offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, with the 4WD model featuring Infiniti's All-Mode 4WD system with Auto, 4H, and 4L modes. The system can transfer up to 50 per cent of torque to the front wheels on demand.
Infiniti said that the QX's maximum towing capacity is 8,500 pounds for both 2WD and 4WD models.
As a first for Infiniti, the new QX will be offered with an optional Hydraulic Body Motion Control system that utilizes hydraulic cylinders located at the shock absorbers to adjust roll stiffness in order to reduce body lean while turning.
The 2011 QX is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in early summer with pricing set at $56,700 USD for the 2WD and $59,800 USD for the 4WD model. These prices are the same as the previous generation QX.

that IS beautiful!
It's a 370Z with an air hose shoved-up its ass and two doors added.
that is one ugly suv...
Looks like a hippo that's been crashed into a wall - a gross car for gross people.
i actually like the nissan model better

The front end look really rich and regal. The other parts look okay. I dislike the overused side vents. The industry is getting carried away. infiniti's have gorgeous interiors. this suv included. i would purchase one.
@ Anonymous "The front end look really rich and regal"? Of which small African state are you a dictator?
Another nonsense massive SUV...
Again, those press photos make it look at home in that landfill.
You have got to be kidding! That is the ugliest p.o.s I've seen since, ever.
fugly
2WD is a bad joke, frankly speaking. It would slip on muddy patches like a common cars,so combination between brave, heroic appearance and feeble tractability on slippery places(no more than ordinary luxury sedans) makes her a "sheep in wolf cloth",how miserable story it is!!
I prefer a Buick Enclave FF(2WD) to this 2WD Infiniti QX,because she's not a genuine SUV.
I do say again, the 2WD QX is a "cumbersome luxury sedan disguised as a tank-like SUV"!
This is Infiniti!
Nice!!
Look! Nissan already added all the after-market elements for the only people that buy this thing: black people.
Oooo Lordeeee that look'n fine!
Ha Ha looks like someone took a ray gun & melted a Patrol suv. looks shit!
A nice departure from a Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade. Not as gangsta. Look elegant. The only thing I dislike is the hideous air intake slots. These make most vehicles look cheap, as here on this otherwise finely crafted automobile.
This is the first time I've ever made a comment on this blog....ahem, hre we go "This is the UUUUUUUUUUGLIEST P_O_S I've ever seen and I've seen alot of Crap on the roads here in America." In closing I'd like to say in general I love Infiniti. But they should do to this what young Kirk did to the Corvette at the begining of Star Trek.
^ do not purchase one then. this vehicle looks like a nice alternative to the many cookie cutter cars, trucks and suv's on the road. the car has a wonderful upscale design. i especially relish the front grille. regal, in deed, as another writer eloquently stated.
OK. First, this thing comes with no diesel engine. What are they thinking!
Second, lets not generalise but this will definitely be popular with the rappers.
There were brickbats for this PoS, Melted blob, fugly SUV earlier.. now its the bouquets for the regal, eloquent, finely crafted vehicle.
So moral of the story...
Go to the auto shows..see it in the real or see the pictures over and over again.
Elegant! Still brutish. Perfectly executed. Do not like the tacky add on look of the side vents. Otherwise, decent!
no, not ugliest, there was pontiac aztek, but it was damn close...LOL
I don't know what most of todays car designers are smoking, but I think it is time they went to rehab.
Infiniti's weakest feature is their interiors. The knob on the dash that infiniti uses in all their cars looks like an afterthought and when you have to reach to use it, your knuckle obstructs the nav screen - poorly thought out erognomics.
And what the fuck is up with that useless analouge clock?! Is infiniti too stupid to put the time on the nav screen? That too looks like an afterthought and looks out of place.
People are strange.
Nice car.
What not to like? Size? Take Smart.
What else? Design? Do not buy it.
Take it easy!
I like new QX.
And I'll buy it.
And unfortunately I am not black (What do You mean, by the way)!
The fact that some of you love it [As I do] and some of you hate it - means that it is a design success. If I was in the market for a big SUV - the QX would most definitely be on a very short list. I think it's beautiful - inside and out. That said .... I'd love to know what the 'haters' consider to be a beautiful big SUV.
Much better looking in person, but still huuge. Almost as big as the current one just a little bit lower
"The fact that some of you love it [As I do] and some of you hate it - means that it is a design success."
WTF?? That's like saying that some people like red [As I do] and some do not like red - that means red is best!
By that EXACT same flawed logic, I can also dismiss your claim and assert that the design is a failure because it fails to garner more support for it's design than it does those that dislike it.
See how much of an illogical tit you look like now?! You shouldn't even be allowed to drive, let alone make valued judgements!
"That said .... I'd love to know what the 'haters' consider to be a beautiful big SUV."
As always, 'hater' is a term used by those that cannot read, write, and have never heard or used the word 'dislike'.
But enough about your language shortcommings, lets address your shallow claim about looks; a last ditch effort to sustain your argrument on the esthectics and and your own subjective opinion!
In no particular order, the immediate compeditors to the QX; pick and evaluate on looks and nothing else and you'll see where the QX falls short.
May I remind you, you said big suvs and said nothing of price, brand, target consumer, or anything else. I would also point out that structurally, NOTHING differentiates a unibody SUV from a unibody 'crossover'.

I am a big fan of this full sized SUV. It looks so much better than the previous generation, has over 80 more HP, and gets better gas mileage! How can you go wrong...and its many thousands less than the Escalade!
Sperm Whale Design
This is the best looking SUV ever...Infiniti has done it again. This handsome SUV design is for the sophisticated mind. All I can say is WOW!!! This is extremely GORGEOUS. I am definitely going to buy one.
^ fluffer
no sperm, but whale poop design, LOL
^ Hey when did you see a whale poop...LoL...must look like your face...LoL.
^ on NY Auto show, it's called "infinity QX , damn, it's huge and ugly and smells like fried chicken already... LOL
^ How did it taste like..? LoL.
^ Can't say, i didn't taste it , but i'm sure , i would puke if i did... LOL
^ But it smells like fried chicken? why puke? When did the QX have fried chicken? Oh buddy.. now i get it its your car..maybe it runs on fried chicken oil...LoL.
i think this vehicle have the right of what a full sized suv should be some comments that its too large and lot of other craps,if ur not in the market for a full size suv then this is not the vehicle for u....both gm and ford have suv up to 10-inches longer and folks still buy them every vehicle have its purpose...i like almost everything about this vehicle again i would x-out those side vent,no vehicle in this class offer a better value..as for the writer comparing this vehicle with about 20+ other he just shows that he knows nothing about motor vehicles...most of those vehicle is not even in the same class...read and keep ur fingers off the tabs,,,
i have recently seen a loaded toyota sequoia going for 58+grand...this is a luxury suv starting almost fully loaded for 56+grand this is the best valued suv out there
"UGLY P.O.S.!"
i cannot believe the racist b.s. that is postd on this blog concerning a car!!!! I have seen more white people driving these SUV's than blacks. I do not like the SUV but how the hell did this become a race thing. Just dont buy it.
