Alfa Romeo's 2010-2014 Product Plans Include New Giulia and Spider, but no Succesor for Brera. U.S. Sales Start in 2012

|

Here we go again; the Fiat Group today announced plans to revive Alfa Romeo with a raft of new models that will also play a key role in the relaunch of the brand in the U.S. market (how many times have we heard that before?) by 2013.

Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne said that Alfa Romeo will launch seven new models from 2010 to 2014 starting with the new Giulietta that will receive an extensive facelift in 2014.

The next newcomer from Alfa will be a replacement for its BMW 3-Series rivaling 159 that will be named Giulia.

Set to arrive in 2012, the Giulia will be based on an existing Fiat platform (most likely, a wider and longer version of the Guilietta's new platform). It will be offered in four-door sedan and station wagon variants and according to the plan, it will mark the return of the Alfa Romeo brand in the States.

The same year will see Alfa introducing a facelift version of its three-door MiTo supermini and a Chrysler Group-based compact-size SUV that will be produced and sold in the States.

In 2013, Alfa will add a five-door model to its MiTo range and launch the car in the U.S. The plan also includes the presentation of a new Spider that will be produced in Europe and the U.S.

There has been speculation that the new Spider will be based on a rear-wheel drive platform derived from Mercedes Chrysler, but this has yet to be confirmed officially. Either way, we hope it looks a lot like Pininfarina's gorgeous 2uettottanta concept (see details and pics here) that was revealed at last month's Geneva gathering.

Finally, in 2014, Alfa Romeo will present a Chrysler Group-based mid-size SUV. Like its smaller brethren, this model will also be manufactured in America.

It's also worth noting that Alfa Romeo's 2010-2014 product plan does not include a replacement for the GT 2+2 coupe, the Brera and the long-gone 166 sedan. The latter was supposed to be replaced by the 169 in 2009 while Alfa's previous plans mentioned the introduction of a compact SUV in 2010 - that said, don't take Fiat Group's product plans for granted, or at least not all of them...

Is Lutz going to work for Fiat (yet another car company he can f@#k-up)? This is a Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky redux edition and will probably end the same way too.

Do not compare Alfa Romeo with anything.
Its probably the only auto company in the world now with unique and beautiful designs.

It look like a 1990s' concept instead of a 2010 concept.

FIAT will come away with the greatest swindle of government money in history. Chrysler will cease to exist and FIAT will have gotten themselves a distribution network on the cheap. Something to make Don Corleone proud.....

I just want a RWD 2uettottanta. SO beauty!!!

Another work of artistry by the Italians. No hint whatsoever of an American produced anything.

I hope this gets traction and it's RWD.

If they make it RWD, I will have to mothball my beloved Miata.

Anyone who compares the pictured Alfa Spyder to cars like the Solstice is ignorant of Alfa history and models. Much of the lines and layout of this car goes back directly to the 60's through 90's Alfa Spyders and Graduate. Cars like the Miata and Solstice actually copy some basic design cues from autos like the Lotus and Alfa of a much earlier vintage. It will be great if Alfa finally comes to excecuting the present plan.

And driving a Solstice compared to a real Alfa sports car is akin to dating a mannequin versus being with the love of your life. You can't criticze Alfa fairly until you have driven one.

"You can't criticze Alfa fairly until you have driven one."

Any what the fuck makes you think anyone would want to drive an Arna?

They are just cars, made of steel and plastic like every other car on earth. They way you're going on about them, you're trying to fluff them up beyond what they are. They are not 'embued' with anything that makes them unique from one car to another beyond fancy body panels.

An don't say 'soul' because there is no such thing as a soul.

get over yourself and your over inflated ego.

Strangely enough they drive and feel differently to Volvo , Toyota, Nissan, Peugeot,Ford of European Origin and even FIATs

Typically they feel eager and lively . However this may not appeal to those that like a car that just gets them from A to B. They have historically required proper servicing, something that many people ignore at their peril.
I currently have a Alfa 147 2.0TS and a Volvo C30 2.4i 'coupe'. The hatchback Alfa is a much more exciting and fulfilling car to drive. The Volvo is a nice car, good for long distance trips as it is the more relaxing drive.

Good on you for Alfa 147 TS, great and underrated car, the other thing though, does this new spider, plus that SEAT concept in white recently FINALLY mean the end to the era of massive headlights dragging their way up the bonnet, I sure hope so

Alfaromeo is for caressing your soul.Everything else is for moving your butt from A to B.

dear lord! what is that??? certainly no alfa romeo! there are some aspects that would suit a milano manufactured car like the hood with its evolved fenders.. but please stop trying to redefine alfa's design language!
even if i start to like the looks of the 4c gta concept more and more they still tried to integrate too much into its design - sometimes less is more...
keep it simple but arousing, clean but passionate like the duettotanta concept (even if that one could be a little more masculine - the rear fenders and exhaust pipes for example... but that's about it).

please alfa, go back to your roots and DO NOT just try to please u.s. market-prognoses. if it's all about money, passion dies (hear that fiat?)! thinking back and recognizing that ferrari would probably never made it without alfa, you (fiat) should let alfa a little loose to make their own decisions... and ferrari kind of makes profits, doesn't it???

... obviously my comment went under the wrong page - sorry about that! it was relating to the idecore alfa concept.
