*Be Warned: The ass-end of this car looks positively divine.
Ugur Sahin Design, the firm behind the (still upcoming?) Z03 which was to be built by Mallett, decided to update Aston's lineup with a design study called the Gauntlet.
The intent was "to design a car which is technically almost identical to the existing production Aston Martins while defining a design character that outmost respects the impressive history of the brand and combine the timeless lines of the past Aston Martins with the modern interpretation of the existing styling."
Here's how I see it: a car like the DB9, but with a coach-built look and feel.
Trying not to be too retro or futuristic, the look comes off as clean and really appealing to the eye. Key features include those sexy, organic headlights, a new take on Aston's wide-mouth grill (previewed on the One-77 hypercar), and - claimed to be cribbed from the DB3S - "high rear and front fenders".
Personal favorites include:
1) brake-heat extractor vents' lines flowing into the tail spoiler
2) mirrors emulating the sharp shape of the window surrounds
3) rear windscreen that's been molded to flow with the roof's lines (we've already seen it's possible with Peugeot's RCZ)
4) creased line down the side (in some pics) which makes the car look like it's wearing an opera mask.
And, last but not least, the artsy/design PR speak: "The name 'Gauntlet' refers to the way lines and surfaces overlap or complement each other, not literally but rather emotionally. This visually suggests the feel of wearing a protective armor which its full power and potential is in control of the driver."
Whatever guys, it looks great.

i luv dis...wat d y say guyz?
Total miss! This design study is all intersecting lines and bloating. The current Astin's are about smooth, uninterupted lines, and svelte, svelte, svelte!Try again.
EVIL ASTON MARTIN
kind of a mix between a One-77 and a maserati granturismo s
The side and rear looks good... but the front looks like a frog or lizard (or some amphibious thing)...perhaps it is the grill (looks like Peugeot and Mazda mix)...
Nah
A beautiful design..doe eyed.
Very much "zagato" style. Like it a lot. If the chassis is not so different Aston should consider limited edition of this vehicle.
Already a Classic !
Sorry but this is not an Aston Martin...
It looks so odd that the logo is set too low. other than that then probably the design is tolerable, not as good as real Astons, I think.
Why is there a Bentley in the last picture?
too much grille
The front looks like a much better designed version of the One-77 and the side look smooth without the awkward kink behind the door that the One-77 has. This is a very nice interpretation of what Aston can be in the future. The rear fenders don't come off as powerful, but as bloated pontoons. The rear 3/4, while very nice, looks more like the next BMW 6 series than an Aston to me. It is too choppy and not smooth and sexy to be an Aston rear end. Redesign the rear and then we can talk about this being an Aston. The front end though is pure sex on wheels.
What a difference a few years makes. Seems the controversy over Bangles 'Flame' surfacing the Z-3 has faded.
Lots of nice development and details here, but the side surface treatment could use a little refinement.
Pull the bottom Flame line back to the wheel opening and fade the top Flame line.
The use of Flame surfacing has gone mainstream and is on too many appliance vehicles for it to hold much distinction on upscale vehicles.
Still, an attractive vehicle that I would park in my garage.
great design exercise with tremendous potential for the few lucky enough to afford a vehicle in this class. a car in this category should stand out. with the usual finesse of the fine tuning process, this concept is destined to look awesome. it should be noted that the disguise is necessary to avoid copycats long before a release date is even being considered. nice work!
Copy Cats?
This design reeks of past styling cues and concepts from the history of automobiles, as do all designs.
Significant changes in design were preceded by technological change first, which created new ideas and allowed new ideas in design to be practically incorporated. At times, design drove the new technology.
Looks pretty sweet.
There are no door handles though. I am guessing the doors are mechanically opened when you press a button on the key fob?
Oh - and it is a vampire car. If you check out the first picture on the bottom row you will see that it casts no reflection. Hopefully that makes it immune to speed radar :)
I like this one. Nice! but I don't like the front. It's like. uhmm. a fence or something like grill. Change it.:)
