BMW Builds One-Millionth 1-Series After Five Years

|

Five years after the introduction of the 1-Series in 2004, and BMW has announced that it has reached an important milestone in the model's history with the production of the one-millionth 1-Series.

The commemorative model, a three-door 118d, was delivered to its owner on Monday, 12 April, on the occasion of the Leipzig Motor Show.

Still in its first generation, the 1-Series is currently available as a three- and five-door hatchback, a two-door Coupé and a soft-top Convertible with a range of four-pot diesels, and 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder gasoline engines.

The power range extends from 115HP in the entry-level 116d (diesel) all the way to 306HP in the two flagship models, the 135i Coupé and the 135i Convertible.

I must be the only person who hates these stupid cars - hideous styling accross the range almost without exception, no cargo or passenger space, poor customer satisfaction (dealers and reliablity)driven by the sort of people who find using indicators or staying a safe distance from the car in front too much of a chore... The only attraction would seem to be the kudos of the BMW badge which seems only to appeal to perma-tanned orange women and young thrusting men who use too much hair product. That means there are 1 million people who I wouldn't like to spend a long plane journey sitting next to...

The 1 was never a great looker but once driven you will be convinced that it is indeed a true BMW, good job.

What I don't understand with this car is why anyone would pay in the $50K range for a car that really offers so little. BMW or no BMW the inordinately high price is way out of whack with what the car actually delivers in power, style, size, road manners, poor resale... And you KNOW every other BMW owner looks down on this car as the runt of the litter. Truly baffling.

BMW needs to bring the 118d and the 123d over to the US right now.

It is such a shame that people accept such ugly cars like the 1-series. No one should buy these cars, because car manufacturers will continue to design them.

I've driven one once, it's actually very good to drive.

Why is it a shame? Who do you think you ar to tell others what they like or why they drive their cars?
