[Updated with 'live' pics from the show] For the first time ever, Subaru is offering its top-of-the-line Impreza WRX STI in two body styles with the return of the four-door saloon model that's aimed directly at the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X.
In addition to the new sedan model that's distinguished by a large rear wing, the 2011 Impreza WRX STI features a series of improvements including revised suspension tuning, lighter 18-inch wheels and cosmetic tweaks.
Up front, the revised Impreza WRX STI hatchback gets sharpened bumper corners and wider, blacked-out fog lamp nacelles, a newly designed front grille with black base and blacked-out wing highlights.
The 4-door sedan model also benefits from newly designed wider rear fenders stretched out on the side beyond the tail lamps.
Inside, the 2011 MYs feature dark cast metallic trim panels and a new audio system with single-disc CD player, Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free calling, iPod control capability, a USB port, 3.5mm aux. input jack and XM/SIRIUS satellite radio.
To further improve handling, Subaru reworked the Impreza WRX STI's suspension. Aside from the lower ride height, the 2011 models also feature new pillow-ball bushings in front and stiffer bushings for the rear subframe.
Both the front and rear suspension systems now employ higher-rate springs and thicker front and rear stabilizer bars than the 2010 model (21 mm vs. 20 mm in front and 19 mm vs. 18 mm in rear), while spring rates have increased by 15.6 percent in front and 53 percent in the rear.
The 2011 Impreza WRX STI sedan and hatchback models are scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. later this summer.

YESS!!!!!
Amen!
Nasty rear wing on the sedan! Love the hatchbacks upper rear spoiler. A lot! Cool car.
Subaru is cool - but this spoiler... a bit outdated!
There are many ways to design spoilers a little bit more tasteful. Look at the motorized spoiler for the Chrysler Crossfire for example!
this a works factory racing style win built for the rally cars and finally being placed on the production model and win might be high enough not to see it much in the rear window, but of course whatever is behind you doesn't matter as long as it stays behind
Car looks great and the rear spoiler is a homage to the older Impreza sedan! Looks much better than the hatchback!
Love the big spoiler on the sedan. If you don't like it, then you don't "get" Subaru
I think the license plate needs to be situated on the bumper to give it that proper Impreza look, at the moment it looks like it could be a winged-up Kia.
And does that rear apron look suspiciously like an M3's to anyone?
"Subaru is cool - but this spoiler... a bit outdated!"
Are you serious....i have been waiting so long for them to bring back the iconic spoiler.
Finally Subaru...finally u can designed a car that has a mean nasty look...i love it
Hahaha- nice photoshop !!! LOL !
still ugly
i agree its still ugly but needs to be agressive, it looks like a toyota yaris sedan from the rear
Welcome back...Subaru WRX STI sedan...
now I don't see any difference in the WRX n STi...the looks is all the same =.=
Yawn!
Squishy looks, with 'Boy Racer' adornments, do not make an attractive package for those with sophisticated tastes.
But it will probably sell.

That is your problem, you are looking at it the wrong way.
An Impreza STI is not supposed to be sophisticated nor elegant, it is about getting from point A to Point B as fast as possible and although I am not completely sold about the looks, the Impreza will do the job just fine ;)
I dont like it. This is a step backwards. Hatchback much nice. I still like 2006 model the most. Just my opinion.
^......Okay! Now I'm standing on my head and still see the same thing, and you contradicted yourself with, "and although I am not completely sold about the looks". Seems we agree, to a degree.
Fully aware of the intended purpose of Impreza WRX STI as there is a slightly(LOL!) damaged and covered in mud _with rocks and various organic parts sticking out of dynamically folded sheet metal and violently broken parts _ WRX in my garage awaiting serious ministrations.
So tell me again what it's purpose is...
Nice photo work Phil...
YES!! Finally.
It looks very nice.
c une mitsu evo 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still wonder when Subaru will look half-decent again. Despite some people thinking impreza's are suppose to look ugly, they really weren't all that bad until 2008 came along and the car lost all it's characteristic looks and just got very generic and watered down to nothing memorable.
Maybe 2012 will be a better year. Until then, I will not look at this car.
Somewhat rugged character is a personality of Subaru brand in my notion, thus she's on Subaru's way.
Yet the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X seems more virile, sophisticated and attractive in my eye.
front still looks like the '94 civics.. still don't like it. Evo is my choice.
also the rear looks like a suzuki sx4 sedan. not good.
A car can have rugged looks but it needs to all fit together with flowing design. See the Legacy STI and you'll agree. I believe they really screwed up with the headlamps, grille and overall lines on the front, but the back is bad as well. Very asymmetric angles and formless shapes does not constitute good design.
the "boy racer" wing makes it an STI theyre legendary for that
you cant have an STI without that wing people!!!!!!
Finaly!!
Amen!
