Independent designer David Cordoso sent us these designs proposals for a successor to the second generation VW Beetle that will soon cease production.
David says he envisions the New/New Bug as an emissions-free, fully-electric vehicle, and judging by the latest developments at the Volkswagen Group, a gasoline-electric hybrid or even an all-electric version of the next Beetle, could very well be on the table.
And while there's room for some fine tuning in the design details (e.g. head- / tail-light styling), overall, we like David's more masculine and sportier styling approach on the Beetle's replacement.

Looks great!
side ok front and rear NOT nice
Looks to much like the Fiat 500
Nice design but I think it's still too similar to the current Beetle design and from what I hear, VW wants to move more away from that to attract more male buyers. Maybe if they removed the built-in flower vase on the dash that might help.
No Thanx. Kill this bastard. Go back to the Concept car from the 90's. That one is crisp and light. Here nothing fits.
Just do it!
Looks even more like a toy than before. Appears very fat and not at all creative. Cant see where this is supposed to be either masculine or sporty and the Gangsta-rims push and wheel-size really put it over the top and down the other side.
what happened to the cool "flat top" concept shown recently in drawing form in some automotive publications?
i'd prefer to buy 1975 beetle
it's always nice to see fellow designers concepts.
If I can suggest something to the David, it is to look into the future styling cues that VW is starting to adopt across it's models. Take a look at the 1Lt and Up concepts and try to integrate some of the new styling directions. Also notice how VW have moved away from the rounder shapes and started to use sharp edges for its new models (new polo and golf).
Take a look at the Golden Ratio (in terms of design), specifically the Fibonacci spiral, as this was used when designing the last Beetle.
Good luck!
Tells you how difficult it is to design something.. leave alone a car if there are so many of them in the market.
Nice try... though it looks like a revamped Fiat 500...
oh, please no on this design...looks like a turd on wheels.
For me it looks too far away fromthe original Beetle design. The typical elements are too weak to still be a "New Beetle". That one could be anything but not a Beetle successor.
new beetle with 2.0 TSI engine
Looks like the best Chinese copy.
Love it.
it is the french car RENAULT dauphine 4cv
Can't they just kill this car? and possibly come up with a new model if they are so desperate to have another thing going?
as a designer myself, i find the front wheels being way far back, while the rear wheel is also way far back. the front is akward and it does not flow well overall. Keep trying!
I could barf. It's not even a beetle anymore. Just call it a new car, don't kill the entire beetle line! Oh wait, they did that last year.
now i would buy that beetle, great job in design.
Very nice looking car, but not to be called Beetle.
I actually enjoyed the round-shaped origninal style. The shape was their signature look -- moving away from that look, is not a good strategy at all.
