More details about GM's 2011 Chevrolet Caprice police car have been made public through the release of the official technical manual. Skipping the parts on the standard police-spec Caprice that we've already showed you in detail, the manual provides our first look at the "Detective Package". Aside from the stealthy black finish, police departments can also choose from six more colors.
We remind you that the Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) is based off the Australian market Holden Statesman / Caprice series, which itself is a more luxurious, long-wheelbase version of the Commodore that was sold in the States as the Pontiac G8.
When it becomes available to police forces across the U.S. early next year, the rear-wheel drive Caprice PPV will be offered exclusively with a 6.0-liter V8 engine pushing out an estimated 355HP and 384 lb-ft of torque, hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission. However, General Motors plans to offer a smaller V6 engine as well from 2012.
The Caprice PPV's chief rival will be the all-new Ford Taurus Police Interceptor that will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations and either a naturally aspirated 263HP V6 or a force-fed V6 churning out 365-horsepower.

http://www.holden.com.au/caprice will give you an idea of a civvy version
Anon#1:They did,it was called the Pontiac G8,and it was a glorious moment for the marque and for GM.So glorious,GM had no clue what to do with having such a good car on sale, they panicked and not only killed the car,but the whole brand after only one year of sale.
and now the only one in GM management with a brain (Bob Lutz) is gone...
6 litre v8. nice to know america is serious about cutting emissions.
Loser Lutz gone...it didn't come soon enough. That man should have been fired years ago.
"6 litre v8. nice to know america is serious about cutting emissions."
5th and 6th gear on the auto are overdrive gears. On the highway, an LS2 practically never runs higher than 900 rpm.
Emissions have been addressed at that speed and it's as low and lazy as they can be without sacrificing torque.
I'll spot this a mile away... thanks, Chevy.
Very handsome sedan. Why not bring to U.S. for the public? Also offer the V-6. The Pontiac G8 was a very attractive sedan. Why didn't they continue to offer as a Chevy and call it a Caprice when Pontiac discontinued? Even a Buick version would be nice.
i completely agree, i own a g8 base sedan and its the greatest car ive ever owned!i would love to buy another in a few years, but......
