2011 Dodge Challenger Facelift Scooped Undisguised!

|

Now here's a nice surprise for Dodge fans. A member of the Mopart forums has snagged some photos of what appears to be the facelifted 2011 Dodge Challenger in R/T trim without a single trace of camouflage. The cosmetic changes over the 2009/2010 muscle-coupe are extremely subtle and it will take a trained eye to spot the differences.

These include the reshaped lower intake up front (basically, the designers turned it upside down) and the elimination of the Ram nose emblem on the hood, plus a new set of door handles. It is possible that the 2011 Challengers could feature more changes on the outside and in particular the rear end as we don't have any other photos of the car.

It is believed that the refreshed Challenger will get a much needed reworked interior with a new design and upgraded materials.

Rumor has that the 2011 Challenger will also benefit from some important changes under the hood. More specifically, it is said that the base Challenger SE will get Chrysler's new Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine pushing out somewhere between 280HP and 300HP, while the flagship SRT8 will receive a new 6.4-liter V8 delivering some 480-horsepower, up from 425HP.

Like so many things American, this vehicle needs to go on a diet. Nice vehicle though.

i am really grateful that chrysler made this car. the mustang is more nimble, the camaro more a halo car with its retro inspired/futuristic looking interior, but something about the challenger just grabs my attention more and makes me want one.. i think because out of the three, its the most honest, and a better representation of what these car where.. thank you chrysler!

all it needs now is a 400 pound diet and it can dominate since the power increase is already on tap and it always had the most interior space

So wait they made the headlights look older?

I really wish Chrysler would make these in RHD and sell them here in Australia, instead of the rubish outdated 300C we get. There is no current muscle car being sold in Australia since the Monaro went out of production a few years ago. Chrysler these would sell like hot cakes if they were correctly priced here ;)

^ The real scandal for Aussies is that the Camaro owes so much to Holden, and GM haven't returned the favour!

Current Aussie muscle only comes in ute form which is a real shame. And combined with the lack of any sub AU$100k V8 coupé offering (even the 6cyl market your stuck with either European or the 370Z), the local coupé markets future looks quite soulless...

As a Detriot insider, I suggest a writing campaign to Chrysler Corporation. They listen. Each time I write, I get a personal reply with insight!

i suggest, since the "RAM badge" is missing, understandably, that dodge use a unique one for the 2011 and all future challengers, just as the mustang ("horse") and corvette (racing flags) have specified model specific emblems.

Hey! Where is Phil John?

Reg, Anonymous/3 ...."its the most honest, and a better representation of what these car where." 'Were!'

These cars originally weren't Large coupe like sedans. While I like the current Challenger, it really doesn't represent the original pony cars except in it's sporty-ness, which is really a stretch for the Challenger.

Now the young automotive journalists and readers who are ignorant of automotive history, call these cars, muscle cars, they aren't. While very powerful in actuality and historic perspective, they are not 'Muscle cars'.

Only the 440 Challenger/Cuda, the rare 'Boss 429'and big block Mustangs and Cougars, and all the big block 396"/427"-Rare) Camaro's crossed that line, but in the day, were still considered 'Pony Cars' as a market segment.

But back to the subject at hand, the Mustang and new Camaro truly represent the original concept of a 'Pony Car', although the Camaro stretch's that quite a bit in it's largess and near crippling weight, saved only by it's demeanor, performance, and knock it out of the park look.

This car(Camaro 'SS') will find it's way into my garage once GM addresses some of my concerns. Presently, it is a pretty good Pony Car waiting to happen.

My GTO doesn't have to worry about the addition of the 'SS'. It is one damn fine 'GT' while not quite (Thank you) Omologato/homolagated.

Oop's! Correction; 'Where is Phil, John.'

I just hope that they were smart enough to make the Base 2011 with a manual...

WHO wants to drive an automatic sports car?

Anonymous said... »July 19, 2010

So has the engine been forgotten about in the R/T?! How about we make the block out of aluminum as opposed to iron, maybe raise the redline, and bump the power a bit? And its ABSURD to charge $900 for a manual transmission, regardless if its out of the viper. Develop a 6speed manual trans that can be offered standard and make the automatic an option. And it looks like it has basic brakes...I hope a Brembo package is available for the r/t, as with the Mustang, and Camaro.

Now it's not only bad-eyes, but also a bad-mouth, good change. They could put speedo with higher max speed, because the current one is a bit too conservative like for the 6l V8 capabilities.

To the " anonymous" commenter, who asked who wanted a sports car w/an automatic. Probably a lot of people like me with Multiple Sclerosis, or other disabilities, that w/o an auto, would have no way to enjoy our beloved Mopars at all. Speaking of, get them while you can boys and girls, before the Nobama losers ( who now own the car makers ) decide you don't have a right to drive one. Hope & Change ! Anonymous 2.
