If you have been wondering what the interior of the all-new 2011 Elantra, or as it is known in its home market, the Avante MD, looks like, here's the first official photo of the compact sedan's cabin.
As expected, the overall design of the dashboard continues the same "sculpted" theme seen on the new Sonata's interior, enhanced with more edges and swoopy lines. It also gets an instrument panel with a pair of tunneled main gauges (speedometer and tachometer), as well as unique controls for the HVAC system on the center console and plenty of faux metal trim.
The new Elantra launches in South Korea with Hyundai's new 1.6-liter direct injection straight four petrol engine, which puts out 140-horsepower and 166Nm or 122 lb-ft of peak torque, and prices ranging between 14,900,000 Won and 19,500,000 Won (about US$12,300 to $16,100).

The new Sonata and Elantra are certainly cutting edge in interior and exterior design, but I think maybe will not age well. Too much pointless swoops and other stuff going on without any particular relationship to function. The Elantra interior in particular - I actually like the old interior better. The dashboard (fascia) was smoothly integrated into the doors and farther away from the passengers than most for a more spacious feeling in the front seat. And not a lot of pointless crap going on. Didn't look too posh because of the materials and detailing, but actually more elegant than this overbusy mish mosh.
Looks good overall; very modern. I think it will have more appeal with younger folks.
if they cut all the pointless swoops, this car will look a better civic alternative.
Looks like there's a new sheriff in town. This is what taking a chance on styling should look like, not like the crap that Honda has been putting out for years. And Toyota? Not even worth mentioning. The SK's are going to give Japan a real challenge for import buyers of Asian cars. Their cars are far more interesting and noticeable than anything coming out of Japan. Go ahead, Japanese fanboys, flame away...but it's true. If it wasn't, you wouldn't get so upset.
We've already got a Civic.. and Focus... and... and... and... I'm just glad to see a car manufacture who's not afraid to be bold. Every year we see new prototypes that come from every corner of the planet; yet rarely, if ever, do the cars that make it to the market look anywhere as daring. Bravo Hyundia for not being afraid to push the envelope. Where would we be if everyone always played it safe. It would be one boring world I tell you. Perhaps now, the others may have to step it up a bit and offer something more identifiable than a name badge.
Well F**k me. This company is going places. At this rate they could overtake Toyota.
The center stack has a bit too much "Alien v. Predator" going on for my tastes.
Cars made from the land of the kimchi is getting more desirable by the year... It serves as a wake-up call for Japanese, European and American automotive brands...
Dash overall is generally OK, but the silver faux metal surround of the LCD central screen looks cheap, made it looked tacked on. I also prefer the current Elantra dashboard, it looks classier and less trendy.
Hyundai has taken the autoworld by storm in the last 3 years ,even as far back as 2004 with the last sonata that show us all that hyundai was becoming what honda, toyota , nissan, mazda, gm, ford all fear most, A car manufactor that gave everyone what they wanted in terms of price, looks, reliability and now performance and without a doubt , pride in the auto you drive..HYUNDAI is the best automaker today with ford right in their footsteps and GM closing in while honda, toyota, nissan and other are just just here with nothing wroth writing home about..mark my word in less then 5 years Hyindai will out sell the lesser automakers like honda and toyota , then maybe honda, toyota will see they cant sell crap and get away with it
That looks retarded. In not a good way. At all. It's what Ford was doing back in the mid 1990's and thank goodness they finally stopped last year.
"It serves as a wake up call for the Japanese, European and American automotive brands..."
-American!....Well you cannot wake up someone who is dead.
Korea meets Las Vegas...tacky but many people might find it appealing.
Exterior is great. Interior is interesting, but a bit overdone. Overall, this should have Corolla, Civic, Focus VERY worried.
This will appeal to a younger audience with all the swoopyness. I think basic, simple designs age better. Example: The Kia Forte is probably the best looking compact as its styling is modern and it will age well style-wise. Another example: the old Sonata had a basic handome practical design. The new one......?? To each his own. I wish they would stop with the "high belt-line" design, rather have better visibility.
