2012 Dodge Durango SUV (or Magnum) Scooped Undisguised!

|

Thanks to Twitter user who posted a link to a Twitpic page, we now have the first photo the 2012 Dodge Durango, which could end up being named Magnum or something entirely different, without any trace of camouflage.

The full size SUV model is believed to ride on the same or lengthened version of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, which was developed alongside the next generation Mercedes-Benz ML SUV.

Being based on the Grand Cherokee, it's almost certain that the Dodge model will be offered with the same powerplant options including Chrysler LLC's new 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar with 290-horsepower and a 5.7-liter V8 HEMI with 360 ponies, when it arrives in showrooms next year.

doesnt look bad, doesnt look amazing. But I think it looks cool! The stance looks intimidating! >:]

VERY NICE! thankfully the highly anticipated durango/magnum replacement differs significantly from the jeep (it seats up to eight, i think) and exemplifies the sporty character of dodge, while the jeep reclaims its rugged good looks with an ample dose of luxury. kudos, chrysler corp. bring on the 2011 chrysler 300c and all new dodge charger, too. cannot wait to see the srt-8 version of ALL of the above, as rumored here in detroit. good news, scoop!

wow! i just put down a deposit on a 2011 jeep grand cherokee equipped with every option. if i had seen this beforehand, it would have been a tough choice, seeing the all new dodge side-by-side a silver '11 jgc in your amazing picture. the dodge and jeep both look awesome! i like jeep products and the three 2011 vehicles i test drove out-class everything on the market! the panoramic sunroof is the greatest and is standard on the trim level i decided on. so long, ford explorer! i do not like any of those lame spy shots of the ford i looked at the flex, lincoln mkx, mkt and various gm products, but the jeep gc is the ultimate. dudes, you must take a jeep out for a spin. i have been driving trucks and suv's for 35 years and nothing matches this all-new jeep. the dodge durango and magnum replacement would be a wise choice if additional seating is needed. i still am drolling over the pic above that i cannot help but keep returning to.

All I can say is "WOW"

I can already see a police package! Bring on a hybrid and clean running diesel to go along with those promising new mighty fuel efficient, potent V6's and the tried and true Hemi V8 like that on my 2010 Challenger SRT-8. I need a new winter car here in the snow-belt of upstate New York.

I will take mine with bold racy Dodge Viper stripes!

Super "C" pillar design. It is novel and makes a BOLD statement. That term seems to be what people are calling it. I seriously think from its looks and promising quality (I, too, have taken a 2011 Grand Cherokee out for a spin - WOW!!!) this may be Motor Trend's Truck (or Car?) of the year. As a minivan driver because of family size, the AWD/4WD Magnum will woo countless drivers needing the traction and seating capacity. I liked the luxury of the short-lived Chrysler Aspen SUV, but we bought our fifth Chrysler Town & Country minivan, a Limited, because of needing to transport more people and belongings than the Aspen seemed to offer.

One poster made an excellent point. Both Chrysler SUV's shown - the Dodge and the JGC - will attract very different buyers, I think, but they are equally alluring for highly individualized reasons. Luxury vs. brute, but still seriously looking off-roaders. A Chrysler derived version is not necessary after seeing the two models side by side.

any chance of other photos circulating? almost looks like the dodge pictured has a rear roof spoiler at close inspection. if not, a modest one would be rad!

For crying out loud this is great. I'm so loving this right now. The dawg on car haven't even got a chance to be camouflage yet, and here we got the pictures. I'm so loving this. The truck look so brute as one of the previous anon said. It looks like it can run up to a Range Rover and pimp slap it and then ask for his money.

Do you even read what you type?

UG-LEE.

i too think the c-pillar has a nice slant. sporty, but truckish. a brilliant design that shows the direction that dodge is going in!

Anonymous said... »July 23, 2010

seeing the dodge charger police car in an earlier clip, i am excited to now see this dodge durango replacement and share the sentiment of your other posters. the ford explorer is so lame in comparison.

the rear area behind the "c-pillar" is BOLD and differentiates it from its sibling at jeep.

your unveiling of this is an awesome scoop. for sure!

donald, man, you are so right! one class act... from dodge!

Anonymous said... »July 23, 2010

One poster is a fine journalist and I like reading his posts here :)! Some class!

The vehicle needs a name and fast! I am drooling, but over what?! Magnum sounds cool. Better than Durango since many of us grieved the death of the Magnum a couple of years ago. The SUV has that car-like look. If a Ram and not a Dodge, Durango as a name would make better sense.

A four door "Challenger". Thank you, Chrysler for not calling it a four door coupe! I am really liking this next Charger!

Anonymous said... »July 23, 2010

^ Oh no! I posted the above, thinking I was still admiring the new Charger. Oh, well! BTW, the Durango is nice, too. I just like cars better!

"i just put down a deposit on a 2011 jeep grand cherokee" - Flush [there goes your cash down the crapper]

"i like jeep products and the three 2011 vehicles i test drove out-class everything on the market!" - I'll have what you're smoking please!

"i still am drolling over the pic above that i cannot help but keep returning to."

How did you afford this truck? Your spelling and grammar lead one to believe you are in grade 10!

=)

Dodge is trying to say "If you are stupid enough to have 6 kids and not learned your lesson after the 1st ... then you are stupid enough to buy our product!"

Anonymous said... »July 24, 2010

actually, the extra seating is generally for fellow scouts and teammates.

for the grammar teacher, above: you always proof read your texts? getta life, dude. i mean get a life.

lol ;0)

this new dodge far exceeded my wildest expectations, btw!

Let go my Lego-based Dodge!

Anonymous said... »July 24, 2010

i will never get tired of legos. have out grown lincoln logs long ago, though - ever since "mk" has been added to the package. lol!

Anonymous said... »July 24, 2010

Technically since this is a "truck" will it be branded a Dodge or a Ram??? IMO, I think it was a mistake to re-brand the pickup trucks from Dodge to Ram. Nowadays it seems that all other automobile manufacturers are dumping brands and duplicating models. Chrysler, on the other hand, seems to be doing the opposite.

Anonymous said... »July 25, 2010

^ great question re: dodge cars and ram trucks. it will be a dodge, as it is a crossover/suv. in the case of ram, the brand will consist of pick-ups and large (primarily cargo) vans and (mass transit) buses for fleet use and perhaps another vehicle or two derived from its mighty Ram pick-up, if ever they decide on a suburban type crew-like "truck".

Anonymous said... »July 26, 2010

far nicer than the 2011 explorer i just saw earlier (above). it captures the essence of the new dodge and will fit nicely with the slightly revised 2011 challenger and all new charger.

Cannot wait to test drive one!

Maybe I will keep my old one - If I wanted a car and not an off road vehicle, maybe I would be interested.
