Like the old saying goes, you win some, you lose some. In this case, Connecticut Powerball winner Rahul Patel, saw his one-week old Audi R8 destroyed by fire. According to a report from the Connecticut Post, Patel was driving the German sports car in Fairfield when he suddenly noticed smoke coming out of the engine compartment.
After he pulled over on the side of the road and stepped out to see what was wrong with the two-seater sports car, it went up in flames. And while no one was injured during the incident, the $140,000 R8 was almost burnt to the ground. Fire officials said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Luckily for Patel, the winning part [lottery ticket] was substantially higher than the losing part [Audi R8] as the 33-year-old Newington resident claimed a $25 million Powerball Jackpot prize last summer from a $1 ticket. He opted to take the prize as a one-time cash lump sum, receiving some $12.5 million, which ended up being around $8.7 million after federal and state taxes.

Did he forget he was driving stick?
No -- he ended up with $8.7-M after taxes were taken off his $12.5-M, which is actually not bad. That's about 30%.
Can someone tell me why there are so many incidents of the R8 catching fire from the engine bay. This is my favorite vehicle and I'm concerned. I'm glad this ended with no injuries.
I believe the author meant after taxes. Anything more than 50% taxes and I'm sure there would be a revolt.
Audi R8 have many problems with flames.

I would still gladly switch places with him.
Didn't this happen in a song by Alanis Morisette? Win the lottery and your Audi R8 burns the very next day, isn't it ironic? He shoulda save himself some money and bought a used Pinto.
"Like a good neighbor, State Farm is..."
The ultimate VW electrical glitch.
why does the american lottery prize not already have taxes taken off? kinda seems liek lying. in Australia if you win 35 million dollars. you win 35 million dollars... just as long as noone else wins it along with you. hope the poor guy insured it.
wow
are you kidding me?
you win an advertised amount or for that matter you earn it by working your ass off, and the govt keeps 30% and thats ok b/c it's not 50%????
