New Peugeot 508 Sedan and SW: First Official Photos

|

Say 'bonjour' to the all-new Peugeot 508, the first official pictures of which were leaked onto the web today. Designed to replace both the Opel Insignia-challenging 407 and the larger 607, the French automaker's new mid-size contender will have its first public outing at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September, and go on sale across Europe and other markets early next year.

Peugeot previewed the new 508 at this year's edition of the Geneva Salon with a concept sedan model, called the "5 by Peugeot". The production version has remained more or less true to the concept car

Along with the first photos of the sleek-looking sedan, we also have pictures of its load-loving station wagon brethren that will cater the needs of those looking for a more practical and possibly more spacious proposal in the mid-size segment.

Technical details remain scarce, though buyers should expect a similar engine lineup to the Citroen C5, upon which the 508 is based off, including 1.6-liter turbocharged petrols and a variety of four- and six-cylinder diesel units. It is also believed that Peugeot will offer a hybrid variant combining an internal combustion engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor powering the rear wheels.

We'll have more on the 508 as soon as Peugeot comes out with an official release.

The estate looks really good.

The show car looked better - this has definite shades of 407 from almost every angle and looks dated before it's even launched (mind you, it's up against the Renault Fluence, so no threat there). Citroen C6 pour moi s'il vous plait!

"(mind you, it's up against the Renault Fluence, so no threat there). Citroen C6 pour moi s'il vous plait!"

Fluence?? C6?? Are you stupid??? It's up against the Laguna, Exeo, Mondeo, 6, Insignia, Accord, C5, Avensis, Superb, etc. The C6 it's a completely different level and the Fluence it's a Megane sedan with dreams of being a electric powered car.

The serious challenger to the Opel Insignia as well as the VW Passat.
I'm attracted at the 2.0-litres diesel hybrid most.
