Ford Motor Corp.'s Australian division has released a teaser illustration of its new-look 2011 Territory, some six months ahead of the crossover's market launch. The current Territory is based on the underpinnings of the local market Falcon sedan and was first introduced in Australia in 2004 having received some subtle updates throughout its production life.
It is believed that the 2011 Territory will continue to make use of current model's platform adding fresh styling inside and out, plus a number of technology highlights, including the introduction of turbo-diesel power.
"The Ford Territory set a new benchmark when it was first released and it is set to achieve this again – and more," said Bob Graziano, President and CEO of Ford Australia. "This is an exceptional SUV. It wears an exciting new look and will boast an extensive list of technical highlights. The Ford Australia team is taking the Territory to an all-new level of performance, refinement and quality, and customers will definitely experience these advancements when they drive it."
Although Ford did not get into any details on the powertrain options in the press release, the company had previously announced that the updated Territory would benefit from the introduction of the Ford and Peugeot-Citroen PSA co-developed 2.7-liter V6 turbo diesel engine.
There's also a strong possibility that Ford may add its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine to the range, as the new powerplant has already been confirmed for the Australian market Falcon.
The company also noted that in the next 18-months, approximately 85 percent of the entire Ford Australia new-model catalog will either be replaced or updated. New models planned for Australia include the latest iteration of the Focus and the Aussie-designed Ranger pickup truck, which was recently revealed at the Sydney Motor Show.

I like the styling direction—provided this really is the direction. So many styling aspects are obliterated from these conceptual drawings to vehicle reality.
the Aussie should not get a better looking car, the American should. after all, Ford originated from America.
Wow, I hope the new Escape looks like that.
Hot design. Should have been the face of the new explorer.
is it me or does the front look like a sirocco?
@Anon #2 I am American, and I'm probably just as fed-up as the Australians who read your insipid statement are. It's as if the Australians are not capable of anything when the reality is that GM would have tanked sooner without them.
I agree that Ford, being an American company, should be designing so called "world cars" with their Mother Country in mind! First it was the new Ranger, and now the Territory. I would consider buying either of these but cannot in the US. If they show up here in a few years it misses the point: vehicles offered in other markets and not in the US just tee me off. I've long admired Vauxhaull models and most recently Opel's Ampera. Why do they get a cooler vehicle with a cooler name than the originators of the thing? I don't get it. I'm not sure what "American Taste" is but I've always disliked it compared to international versions of our cars. Why not just produce one and put it out there. If people don't like it, too bad. I highly doubt US drivers would balk when things like mandatory rear amber signals would be added to all US vehicles. The Chevrolet Lumina Euro edition of the '90s begs the question: If Americans want European styling so much, why not just give us the European-styled models to begin with?
to all you yanks whining here - you get the new ford explorer & we aussies don't... so shut up!
Would you like a 335KW supercharged V8 four door sedan rear wheel drive, with a ZF 6 speed auto.
We have them available made by Ford Australia, just google www.fpv.com.au
Not too bad for a daily drive - check this video link...

Clearly Jerry you're struggling to acknowledge the complicated nature of a world revolving around money and politics....exactly why Ford does look to outside the US to provide international solutions for their global products!
Ford, GM and Chrysler are INTERNATIONAL companies, born of US origin.
On design it's not about US taste, but rather US creativity limitation. No matter how amazing US designers are, foreign based design teams will always have creative ideas which US based team culture(s) haven't yet thought of.
International versions are influenced by international employees, for international production and international sales!
- New Ranger, realised by AUSTRALIANS
- New Territory, realised by AUSTRALIANS
- Vauxhall/Opel models, realised by EUROPEANS (Germans)
Although the parts bin may contain US-origin designed bits, NONE of these vehicles would have become the whole they are if they were fully designed and exported from the US. It's precisely this international input that has provided the Ampera name and styling you lament over!
The Chevy Lumina Euro (W-platform) was US designed, US built and sold exclusively the US. Pseudo-Euro styling isn't Euro styling!
Excellent news for the Aussies, as the Territory is feeling a little tired in the styling department. They should maybe also consider a replacement range for the defunct FPV F6X, with a V6 EcoBoost or V8 Coyote (with Miami version too).
However, they better do their homework to make that platform carry-over (derived from the '02 Falcon) last until next overhaul in circa 2017!
Audi called - they want their drawings back
the front looks grotesque Especially the silver-bead detailing. Looks like they've tried to graft a car onto a truck. I suggest a rethink...
This looks like an
excellent family car. I love the styling. Good effort from Ford.
