New Lexus CT-200h Hybrid Priced from $29,995 in the U.S.

|

Lexus has dropped pricing details for its all-new CT-200h ahead of the hybrid model's U.S. market launch in early March. The five-door model will be priced from $29,120, plus $875 for delivery, processing and handling, which comes out to a total of $29,995 [about €22,450] making it the least expensive car in the Lexus lineup in the U.S.

“For just $1,000 more than the cost of a non-luxury hybrid, buyers can indulge in a CT 200h with our proven Lexus Hybrid Drive technology,” said Mark Templin, group vice president and general manager, Lexus Division. “Lexus hybrids currently make up 90 percent of all luxury hybrid sales in the U.S., so you can imagine how excited we are to continue our leadership in this market with the CT 200h.”

The fifth hybrid model in the Lexus lineup makes use of a 1.8-liter gasoline engine that works in conjunction with an electric motor, a battery and a generator. The system has a combined total output of 134 hp (100 kW) and allows the CT 200h to accelerate from 0-60 mph [96 km/h] in 9.8 seconds. According to the manufacturer, the hybrid model has EPA-estimated ratings of 43 mpg city and 40 mpg on the highway utilizing regular 87-octane gasoline.

Standard features on all CT 200h's include SmartAccess with push-button Start/Stop and touch sensors on exterior front-door handles; leather steering wheel; a six-speaker, audio system with a CD player, and Bluetooth; integrated satellite radio receiver (with a complimentary 90-day trial subscription); USB/iPod connectivity; 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels; and dual zone automatic climate control. The CT 200h is also equipped with a standard eight-airbag Supplemental Restraint System.

Optional features will include a sixth-generation navigation system with a backup camera, a moonroof, heated seats, and a Premium Audio Package, which includes the Lexus premium audio system with 10-speakers and six-disc CD changer, HomeLink and electrochromic rearview mirror with compass.

Pricing is pretty good for this model. Surprised.

Don't be, it probably isn't any nicer than a Toyota in terms of interior quality and driving experience because that all it really is with Lexus badges.
It should be cheaper if you think about it.

As a Lexus driver, the pricing is a few thousand dollars more than what I had expected. In addition, I feel the styling could have been much better - in particular along the lines of the VW Scirocco which NA was deprived of instead of a Corrola/Matrix clone exterior. I do however like the interior. I hope Lexus brings the excitement again with its new projects in the works - IS & SC revamps.

That sure is one expensive Auris(AKA European Corolla)...

I can log onto Ebay Motors and find a pre-owned 2006-2008 Lexus GS for around that price or lower.

Why would I pay $29-30K for what is essentially a Toyota Corolla/Matrix ?

Effectively a Prius...

But will it appeal to target customers of this class?

I like it, and I think it is well priced for 40mpg. It is luxurious enough and unique looking enough to justify the price. Target audience will eat this up nodoubt. All those Prius owners will most likely switch.

As far as resembling Corolla and Matrix, so what? It standsout enough IMO that I don't think any buyer would notice or care.

This car is so hideous it's unbelievable. And it's clear that it's a Toyota with another badge, they don't even try to hide it. Shameful that they put this monstrosity on the market.

Anon 4; "That sure is one expensive Auris(AKA European Corolla)..."

Clearly you haven't seen the price of an Auris Hybrid which start (in the cheapest country in Europe) at $30k and rise to $34k. The CT200h would actually be one cheap Lexus!

I wonder just how much the exact same CT-200h is going to cost in Europe!

Any way you look at it, price, brand, design, interior, performance, fuel efficiency... this car is lame.

This is one ugly design - very dis-proportionate... Not nice at all.. Lexus in my eyes are still yet to create a balanced, sexy design - And yes I know they are based on Toyotas, but thats no excuse

Some of the most turdish, well turdiest comments one can ever witness. This would probably be the best five door or hatch out there in the world. A Solid seamless smooth Lexus hatch is what one would dream about city cars. We are so lucky that we get it here stateside. and i don't get whats so dis-proportionate about it. and the interior is just gorgeous. Some of you have to see it in the real. OK the price may be tad high but its a good good Lexus.

Very nice Lexus! I had the possibility to drive it. Nowhere a Toyota, it's a Lexus for sure! Fun to drive, great interior design and quality. You can even feel the difference when switching to the sport mode.

What I don't understand is how it manages 40 mpg when the sedan version of this car which is already on the market only gets 34 mpg. Anyway, I wish them luck and hope it sells better then their SportCross wagon which bombed about 10 years ago.

Saw the CT-200 at the LA show, impressive styling live. Was hoping for more performance to go with the bad boy looks, but 40+ MPG is sweet..

Just a matrix. Lexus needs dedicated platforms, not this rebadged toyota garbage.

As for this idiot:

"This would probably be the best five door or hatch out there in the world."

I take it you've never heard of an M5 estate.

You lose.

"I take it you've never heard of an M5 estate"
- YES i've heard its not good.
You lose your keys.

Anonymous said... »December 19, 2010

so you beg the question 'is a CT better than an M5 estate?'

The answer of course is 'no'.
