The U.S. auto sales numbers for 2010 are out and once again, Ford's F-Series pickup truck has been crowned the best-selling vehicle of the year, a title which it has held for 34 years in a row. According to Autodata Corp., the Dearborn-based brand moved 528,349 units of its F-150 light-duty and F-250, F-350 and F-450 heavy-duty trucks in 2010, recording an impressive increase of 27,7 per cent over 2009.
The Chevrolet Silverado took second place with 370,135 units, or some 158,000 less than the F-Series. Sales of GM's pickup truck were up 16,9 per cent from the previous year. Despite Toyota's recall debacle, the Camry finished third overall earning the title of the best-selling passenger car in the States with 327,804 units, posting an 8.1 per cent drop from 2009. The Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla followed in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Overall, U.S. automakers had four vehicles on the Top 10 list, while Japanese carmakers took six spots. The Silverado a Geek-Mobile, Wouldn’t be Caught Dead in One
Awww,who likes widdle cars,you do!
I don't understand who is buying all these trucks. I sure hope there won't be another cash-for-clunker deal to save these gas guzzling drivers next time around.
Strange choises...
1st and 10th are horrble cars...
"Geek - Mobile"? I find that an odd observation toward a truck. Now if you had mentioned a Prius I could see a link.
I find sales figures interesting but they don't lead me to buying the cars that I do. People buy cars and trucks for a variety of reasons and just because one lands on top of the heap probably says more about the whims of the buying public than the vehicles themselves. That trucks remain popular for years simply means people find need and want in them. Doesn't mean I should buy an F-150 cuz so many other people do. By the way, this is either the second or third year that Ford has also included the F-450 in its figures. Now there's a vehicle we all should be driving!
Are these numbers all correct? For instance Honda reports 311,381 Accords for 2010.
despairing...
"I don't understand who is buying all these trucks."
In one word: Tradesmen.
Glad to see the top is American Made. Ford really took the pack :)
"Glad to see the top is American Made. Ford really took the pack :)"
yes. but unlike the honda products, fmc sells thousands to tradesman (as the above poster states) & as fleet vehicles. working as an EMT, our fire, police & ambulances are fords.
you can see many other utility vehicles with pick-up cabs, likely from ford and the co's aggressive marketing. damn, look at all of the airline trucks the next time you are stuck on the tarmac and you will see dozens of new f-series at every major airport scooting around. they are also used on farms, for construction, as rental vehicles, garbage trucks and by landscaping firms.
ford is notorious for underbidding gm and chrysler (ram) to keep their trucks #1 in sales. i am not knocking fmc by any means. just stating facts. the industry is competitive and ford's captured the market.
at under 2% of vehicles sold into fleets, honda impresses me more. kudos to them.
the honda's selling the most are mostly built in the u.s. my son-in-law works for an ohio plant.
This list really is inaccurate...Hyundai Sonata sold over 200,000 in 2010..so why aren'y they on this list? Someone should do better research..
The year is not over just yet, but Hyundai has already sold more than 200,000 units of its all-new Sonata sedan, a new record for the model. According to Hyundai Motor America, sales of its popular mid-size sedan in the States reached 180,659 at the end of November and broke the 200,000 mark on last Thursday Dec 23, 2010.
^#Anon: Someone should pay more attention to press releases. Hyundai sold 200,000 Sonatas not in the U.S. alone, but in North America combined.
And I quote the press release you so kindly referred to:
"Hyundai has sold more than 200,000 Sonatas in North America in 2010, a highpoint for the Sonata nameplate in a record-setting year in which Hyundai will sell more than 530,000 vehicles in the United States and more than 110,000 in Canada for the first time ever."
how about a list of NON fleet vehicles, you know the ones that the power company, phone company , cable company etc dont buy in bulk probably due to contracts. When was the last time you saw a utility company employee driving a Tundra to install your phone, or a Honda Accord to read your meter? Great bragging rights lol, who put this list out Ford? Pleanty of ford advertising bannars on the page im looking at.
The numbers are the numbers no matter your favorite four wheel vehicle. Hopeully if you drive a truck you use it for what it is intended. Otherwise, the gas mileage and insurance will put you in bankruptcy.
Better to be able to pay your bills and eat dinner than look cool.
