BMW Adds Three-Seat Rear Bench Option for the X6 and New Equipment Goodies for X5

|

Starting from April 2011, BMW X6 customers will be able to specify the crossover model with a three-seat rear bench. Up until now, the X6 was offered exclusively with a four-seat layout. The extra accommodation is available for all X6 models with the exception of the X6 ActiveHybrid, and can also be ordered for the X6 M. Besides the third seat that replaces the previous storage unit between the two rear passengers, the five-seat model also gets new leather options.

BMW also announced that the new batch of X6 models will feature shift paddles on the steering wheel whose operating logic follows the principle familiar from the M cars: for manual shifting of the eight-speed Sport automatic transmission, the right paddle is used for upshifts and the left for downshifts.

Furthermore, both the BMW X5 and X6 can be ordered with new Y-spoke design 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 275/40 and 315/35 front and rear tires respectively, plus a Comfort Access system that illuminates the car’s surroundings, and an updated range of ConnectedDrive services. The latter includes the BMW Apps option, which means that iPhone users will be able to access Facebook, Twitter and international radio stations, regardless of the car’s location.

Finally, one of the dumbest idea of the automotive industry fixed. Otherwise, I find this car quite beautiful.

Next to be corrected : will really Citroen propose on a 5 doors premium compact car fixed rear windows on the DS4 ?

The rear seat of X6 is not mean for adult, now with 3 seat just fit for 3 kids below 12 years old!

Well done BMW!

Wow i hate this car, it is completely useless. And now i have another reason to hate it. It only came with 4 seats?! What the hell.. Isn't it supposed to be an SUV/4x4 weirdo thing.

Don't know why people buy it since there are hundreds of better alternatives. It has no special uses.

Now BMW will be able to sell 10 more of these per year. Whoopee!

The mishapped X6 has a curb weight of 5254. And adding an extra seat makes it practical? That's like trying to decide dating an ugly fat chick because she lives in a 2 bedroom apartment and she can cook.

yeah 100s of better alternatives.. I tried them all and still bought the X6.
Three seats in the back thats a stupid idea, if you want 5 seats get an X5, now the Z4 needs an extra seat too.

I don't see why this car generates so much stir and hatred! People will always seek new original and exotic ways to blow their excess cash and it's only natural if the manufacturers that usually serve them respond. While I'm personally not too fond of the looks at the back, I like the idea of being able to ride high in comfort, AWD security and safety with the additional bonus of relative sportiness, extravagance and style of sorts. And so what if the rear seat doesn't have enough room or the boot is not very commodious? The people who will actually buy this car may *not need* the space and if they do, they would go for the the X5 anyway! Not everyone shares the same opinion, lifestyle, needs, and desires and if the X6 fits someone, it's the right car, even if it had spikes in the seats or no rear seats at all.
