Volkswagen Officially Reveals 2012 Tiguan SUV Facelift Prior to Geneva Motor Show

|

Volkswagen has dropped the first official photos of its refreshed Tiguan following the leak of a single picture of the compact SUV that appeared on the automaker's public website on Thursday. But while we got more than half a dozen of photos, VW did not release any info on the 2012 Tiguan other than that it will make its world premiere at next month's Geneva Motor Show and that the base price of the new model in Germany remains the same as before at €24,175 (US$33,000) for the entry-level Trend and Fun with the 122HP 1.4-liter TSI petrol.

The company added that it accelerated the presentation and the start of advance sales of the "technically and visually refined" Tiguan several weeks because "sustained high demand for the previous model has resulted in it being sold out."

Looking at the photos we can see that the exterior changes have shades of the new VW design language seen across the Eos, Passat and Touareg. There's a new face up front with a wider but more plain grille flanked by redesigned headlamps incorporating LED daytime running lights and a restyled bumper. The changes at the rear are also inspired by latest VW models as the Tiguan's tail lamps have been squared off, while the bumper has also been re-designed.

The only visible change inside the cabin appears to be the newly designed steering wheel.

We'll have more on the updated Tiguan as soon as Volkswagen releases more information and /or photos.

glad i had waited! love the modest but welcomed changes. especially like the new seat color shown. the black interior is too stark and the cornsilk beige way too light. the vehicle is far roomier than it looks. the '11 is pricey enough so i hope this revised model does not get anymore expensive. otherwise, i will look at the top of the line SEL version in AWD,

Handsome update to an overall boring lineup. VWNA needs more sizzle in a hurry - please simply bring the Scirocco to the US in a high output/awd form - that's a start. We want exciting models to looks at too - VW has the driving experience down.

Ugly and dated Golf+ interior remains, boring exterior even blander, if that were possible. "VW has the driving experience down"...? Only if you'd never driven anything else or simply didn't value driving dynamics. Another yawn-inducing dud in VWs increasingly tedious range.

I don't care for the Touareg's price points, but it has shown some real staying power. VW is on a roll.

To Anon #3 - I'm Anon 2 - I've driven some of the best performing vehicles in the world - In my statement "VW has the driving experience down" - I was referring to the fun factor relevant to price. From $15-$30K new a VW GTI or R32 is extremely fun to drive and I would put it up against anything else in that range. I'm not speaking to reliability & not referencing the Tiguan - I'm simply saying the performance & fun factor among their best offerings is very good - VW simply has to work heavily on styling. My expensive sports cars I prefer to drive on the weekend; for daily use however, a VW for half the price of a BMW is fine (for now)- I invest the savings so I can buy the upcoming restyled S Class.

can you please do a before-and-after segment for these situations?

Tiguan, Bentley Conti, etc.

Thanks

in general looks good but the interior remains old fashioned, needs more sporty shapes and better materials

The cars from VW all look about the same with minimal distinctive feature. VW may look good with all sorts of gadgets and goodies. Reliability is still an issue.

VW introduce the RAV4, with 'wanky' electronic parking brake gismo thing.

excellent styling and front end look, though I'm not a fan of the "christmas tree" front lights. Next to Honda, VW group has the best styling in the business...
