With fuel prices on the rise again, efficient sub-compact models like the Accent are coming back to the spotlight. At the 2011 New York Auto Show, the South Korean automaker pulled the wraps off its latest iteration of the Accent in U.S.-spec. Slated to hit dealerships this summer, the 2012 Accent is offered in both five-door hatchback and four-door saloon body styles and promises to deliver a best-in class fuel economy of 30mpg city and 40 mpg highway.
Dressed in Hyundai’s familiar ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design outfit, the new Accent introduces a new aluminum 1.6-liter Gamma engine with direct-injection technology delivering 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. The four-cylinder gasoline unit is paired to either six-speed automatic or manual transmissions, with Hyundai claiming a highway-only driving range of up to 456 miles (733 kilometers).
Both body styles of the new Accent ride on a 101.2 inch wheelbase, 2.8-inches longer than the previous generation. The 66.9-inch width on all 2011 models increased by 0.2 inches for 2012. The Accent 4-door's overall length has increased by 3.5 inches to 172 inches, while total length of the new five-door version is 162 inches.
Pricing for the new Accent starts at $12,445 for the GLS four-door and $14,595 for the GS five-door, not including a $750 freight fee.

This is a nice little car, should dominate in the small car market. Hyundai/Kia are on a real roll!!!!
Just like the new Elantra, Sonata and Tucson - class leading interior, exterior design and mileage. And at a reasonable price.
is this gonna be the european i30?? it's really good...
I think the real story here is not how good Hyundai has become, but rather what in the world has happened to Honda. It appears that they are being left behind in the quest for the most fuel efficient cars. They used to own that arena.
I don't get it... less room, less power/torque, less style, and the same fuel mileage as Hyundai's own Elantra. For all their recent home runs, this is a fumble. Put in a 60mpg diesel in the Accent, and now you've tallied another home run.
I agree, why not just buy the Elantra if they both get the same mileage. When I clicked on the link to read the article I thought they were going to present us with some serious MPG. It is still a nice car but the bang for ur buck is not there.
Very nice! The Accent has come a long way and although it gets the same mileage as the Elantra, many people (college students, people that own cars for 10 years or so, and first time buyers), but the Elantra maybe too much for many people. Regardless of the same gas mileage this car will sell well on its own and it has been alongside the Elantra for many years. The Accent is a good bang for your buck regardless if the Elantra and Accent have the same gas mileage.
In Russia, this car calling HYUNDAI SOLARIS!!! Selling started about month ago.
well this car start out 2,400 dollars cheaper and there lay the difference. 2,400 dollars more is a lot for a college student or a low income worker and this car will meet their needs better with the lower starting point.
