All-New Nissan Tiida Unveiled at Shanghai Auto Show, Previews 2012 Versa in the U.S.

|

It won’t be long before Nissan takes the wraps of the North American market 2012 Versa, but the Japanese company offered us our first glimpse of the sub-compact model with the reveal of the new Tiida hatchback at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show today. As some of you may already know, the Versa is sold in numerous markets around the world under the Tiida nameplate.

The new generation of Nissan’s best selling model sports a swoopier exterior design with some styling references to the pure-electric Leaf. The fluid theme is carried over to the interior with a floating center cluster. The Japanese company also promises improved passenger space thanks to the 100mm (3.9-in.) longer wheelbase.

Nissan has not yet released detailed information on the powertrain lineup, but the company said the Tiida will be offered with a turbocharged four-cylinder unit while transmission options will include a CVT.

The Chinese-market version of the new sub-compact model will be produced in the Dongfeng Nissan Huadu Plant in Guangzhou, with domestic sales to start in May 2011. Nissan said that following its introduction in China, the Tiida will be launched in approximately 130 countries around the world by 2014.

Looks alot like the Lexus CT 600h, maybe even better! Sad, when an entry model econobox from Nissan is even mentioned with an upscale Lexus.

Hey, its a bargain CT 600h/Leaf. Boring! Nothing about this is orginal, or exciting, which is right in line with alot of Nissans products for the last 10 years. Remembers when Nissan actually made nice looking cars. But i guess it is much better than the Nissan Junk, oops, i meant Juke.

Terrible tail lights, crappy Lexus rip-off grill and weak side profile with the wavering curve over the rear door. Interior has some definite ques from the last model.

Nothing to get excited over.

I have to agree, looks very Lexus CT200 like. The grill and headlights scream Lexus' current design language. The rest of the car is very Mazda 3 to me. Those are not bad cars to copy. Looks a lot better than the current Versa and definitely ties into the Leaf family resemblance, which is a good thing for an automaker to have some family traits that carry through the line. Should look pretty good on the road. Good job Nissan. This may help finally get the younger generation they wanted with the Versa but failed to get with the first version.

Don't like the swoopy design but overall car looks good, esp. for economy car. Nice practical interior. Looks expensive. Seems all interiors are getting nicer in economy cars except for Honda and Toyota.
