No, Coca-Cola has not turned Chevy’s upcoming Sonic subcompact into a mobile marketing tool for carbonated soft drinks. What you see pictured here is a Z-Spec accessorized 2012 Sonic and it will debut at the New York International Auto Show to officially launch Chevy’s new line of aftermarket bits that will be available before the end of the year. Chevrolet gave us our first look at its new accessory lineup with the Z-Spec concept versions of the Cruze, Spark and Volt at the 2010 SEMA show.
For the new Sonic, which replaces the Aveo in the States, the Z-Spec range will initially focus on cosmetic improvements.
Available bits will include a full bodykit comprising of front and rear aprons, rocker panel extensions and a silver exhaust tip, contrasting mirror caps and roof spoiler, contrasting upper and lower grille surrounds and a body graphics package like the one you see here.
Also on the menu are bespoke 16- and 17-inch painted alloy wheels along with color accent packages in “Black Out” or “White Out” paint schemes. Interior upgrades include aluminum sport pedals and sill plates. Chevrolet plans to add more accessories to the lineup in the near future.
The Fiesta-sized Sonic will go on sale in the U.S. this fall in two body styles, a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. Buyers will be able to choose between two powertrains, a standard 1.8-liter Ecotec engine with 135HP paired to five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, and 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec engine with 138HP that’s expected to return 40 mpg on the highway.

WTF is this... you put a name like Z-spec on a product and not give it performance upgrades? Instead, you give it a paint job that looks like a small business utility car!?

With some research on your part, people, into the Aveo/Sonic genesis you'll find from other "salon" studies of the Sonic at Z spec level- that performance goodies are the long range plan and part of the "spec" in a Z version.
So they are emphasizing graphics initially. I guess the turbo engine choice or a 1.8 liter or all new body, or U.S. built or full line body kit aren't enough until the car can be sold and demand gauged and reliabilility set before the complaining about what isn't there begins. Amazing.
Jeezuz it's a design study, not a set in stone, one size fits all, literal showing of a full tilt performance Sonic.
Use you imagination, do a little digging and quit trying to bitch and moan and uselessly complain to no one that can make a difference about problems that don't exist. These cars have the potential to be great. If you have concerns and suggestions write GM.
