MG6 to Start Production at Birmingham site on April 13, Prices Start from £15,495

|

The fastback version of the all-new MG6 will soon become MG Motor’s first all-new model to pass through the gates of the firm’s Longbridge factory in 16 years. The last time MG showed a brand new model was in 1995 with the MG F, a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive roadster. According to the British automaker, the first series production model will roll off the assembly line on April 13, 2011 at precisely 11:00 am.

MG Motors, which now belongs under the umbrella of China’s Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) group, will follow up with a sedan version of the MG6 this summer. Both the four-door saloon and the five-door fastback will be offered with a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that’s good enough for 160 ponies and 215Nm of peak torque at 1750-4500 rpm.

The MG6 fastback returns a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint time of 8.4 seconds while the British automaker says “top speed is electronically limited to 120mph [193 km/h]” without giving any further explanations.

For the time being, the MG6 will be sold exclusively in the UK with the fastback model being available in six colors (Burnt Orange, Pitch Black, Regal Red, Union Blue, Granite Grey, Platinum Silver, Arctic White and Champagne Gold) and three trim levels: MG6 S - £15,495; MG6 SE - £16,995 and MG6 TSE - £18,995.

But ugly, Chinese desighn looks dated already. Im sure the build quality will be top notch NOT. Who the heck will buy this? Really, for that price I can buy a nice used Audi, Merc, Bmw etc. Even a Honda is better!

Hater stop hating! We should be glad the Chinese have resurrected this awesome brand! This car deserves to do well, even if it's not perfect.

I see where the Chrysler Sebring interior designers are working now. Dreadful hard plastics everywhere. So sad. At least the Rover 75 based model had a nice interior.

"Hater stop hating!"

fuck that! LONG LIVE NEGATIVE CRITICISM!!!

Well, hope it has good reliability. That'll contribute much to its success.

I'm sure the British press will rave about it. But to be honest the last few cars produced by the old British Leyland / Rover group (before the Honda, then BMW merger) weren't wonderful anyway.

styling utterly hopeless.
Could be any japanokorean.
No MG heritage evident...

this is designed by Ssangyong Motor from Korean

Anonymous said... »April 08, 2011

Actually, it was designed and engineered by a team of 300 or so British engineers at SAIC's UK R&D centre in the Lonbridge factory in Birmingham. Best to get your facts straight before you criticising the car for being Chinese.

If this car didn't bear a British badge, the British press would have torn its reputation in pieces.
Now that it is a badge - more or less - of national concern, the British press minds to give it much more space than the one a typical as Chinese inferior product deserves.

The village idiots abound.

It lacks a certain harmony in the lines, I have to say that. Also, the headlights are not really modern... Neither is the steering wheel. Uhm... while I really like MG as a brand, I would rather they made a real effort for the customers... it's too valuable a brand to squander on shitty cars like this one.
