Scion FR-S Concept: First Photos of U.S. Market Toyota FT-86 Leak Online

|

Anticipation is running so high for Scion’s version of the Toyota FT-86 sports coupe that some couldn’t wait for the official reveal of the FR-S later today at the New York Auto Show, and dropped the first pictures of the car onto the web.

From what we can tell from these two photos, the Japanese automaker has changed the design again with the FR-S sporting a new front bumper that does away with the Geneva Show FT-86 II’s aftermarket-like LED strips, while also featuring a different rear bumper and diffuser, as well as more pronounced rear fenders. The gaudy side vents are also gone while the study is equipped with different exterior mirrors.

That’s about all we have on the Scion FR-S for now, but we’ll bring you all the details and photos later in the day.

Red Rover, Red Rover, please send Scion FR-S right over!

Please, please, please do not transform the showroom model to be unrecognizable from the concept.

It's about time Toyota makes something that LOOKS good! Well done, even if it is still a concept, and they will undoubtedly snooze it up before production.

This is OK but not as great as the first FT86 was. the second one was just plain ugly and this third one ft86( ok now it is called the FR-S) fix the ugly but it still lacks the muscular stance of the first one. Sorry toyota you have failed again and passed at being bad in a bad way

I am a autodealer and I will tell you the toyota and honda brands are hard sells right now because of their ugly profiles and this car does not help their battle to get back to being a good car company.

I am not impressed with this, there is something off about this car.

Kewl back grounds for a turd of a car. Yea Um Toyota the nineties called and want their designs back. This thing look outdated.

This thing looks amazing, classic looks, classic FR configuration, no stupid LEDs, I'm in love, the only problem with the car is that fucking Scion badge. That's not classic, that's just stupid.

Toyota haters suck, I mean seriously, It was pretty funny to make fun of Toyota a couple of years ago, but it's getting boring and annoying.

Genesis meets 370 ripoff, I always hated Scion

Why make the FT-86 a Scion? It already has a TC model. Adding another model in the Scion lineup may serve to potentially cannibalize Toyato's currently absent sport car models (i.e. Celica). Shouldn't the FT-86 be competing against cars like the 370Z, Mustang, or the RX-8? Making the FT-86 a Scion product may indeed increase sales targeted to a certain market niche that favors a low price point. Sure they'll make money and may save the Scion brand, but where would that leave Toyota? Where would that leave middle class income sport car enthusiasts with a more mature palate (i.e. the now disenfranchised former Celica/Supra owners).

genesis meets 370z the genesis is a clear rip off of the G37 inside and out this thing looks nothing like either. As far as the blind person that wishes their RX8 looked this good instead of like some cartoon car that doesnt have the power nor performance to back up its RX badge, V8 gas mileage, or poor italian car like reliability.....

^^^ you have serious problems....

STFU toyota fan boy, go drive your girly Celica and F-off, you must be a homosexual btw!

This is a fagmobile, nothing more

concept or not, if Toyota wants to compete or stay in the competition, then deliver this or some other design that is more radical, it's either that or shut the hell up and stop showing concept for nothing.

Love it. I knew all the idiots that commented they hated the design would come back here when it was revealed to claim they like. This is just what the Scion brand needed - would like to see a comfortable high grade interior and a High Output Turbo option.
Toyota needs a true Supra replacement now and
soon it will be just like the 80's & 90's with the Nissan 370Z and Mazda RX7 - Mitsubishi is going to focus on small electric cars so sadly no updated 3000.

This car is always changing, time for Toyota to show us the final production model.

Looks far more Mazda than Toyota, but very handsome/aggressive nonetheless.

Looks like a rip-off of the Genesis, the profile is dead on copy. Way to go Hyundai

first johhny your teacher said draw time is over, second The front is not proportion right for the back and the wheel fenders are too wide for the windows. This looks like something a 8th grader would had drawn. toyota please fire your designers and get real talent.

Honestly I know the toyota and scion fan bois want this to be the scion halow car that shows toyota is at last back on track but sadly it show they still have no ideal what they are doing. This is not the best looking car I have ever seen but also It is not a bad looking car really, but something is very odd about the style like it was model in front of a fun house mirror. I don't know I guess when you try to copy and paste designs elements of the Hyundai Genesis and the cherolet corvette it just does not work as in this case for this scion FR-S. Separately both the cars are great looking and this car with their combined looks is odd looking in a odd way. One can see really that Toyota designers still do not have very much talent , and this is not the car to show the toyota gaint, be it toyota ,lexus or scion is not back yet from their lack luster designs.

I was Thinking the Same Thing , That this Car is Very Odd Looking. Toyota for the life of me just can not design a good looking car. If this beast was the answer to make the tC Look Better then Scion has Failed

To the anon poster who wrote this >Love it. I knew all the idiots that commented they hated the design would come back here when it was revealed to claim they like. This is just what the Scion brand needed - would like to see a comfortable high grade interior.

Good to see you agree with us that Toyota has cheap looking interiors .The reason for that is Toyota is cutting costs to save money much like ford, Gm did in the eights. Toyota is sadly the Ford and GM of the eighties and from your post I can see you were desperately hoping Toyota would wake up. sorry to say Toyota is still asleep at the wheel.

Next time you write a fan boi letter to scion, ask them why they use a 1990 cavalier dashboard in the tC. lol
