Honda Launches New Fit Shuttle Small MPV in Japan [ 46 Photos]

|

After briefly postponing the presentation of its all-new Fit Shuttle due to a variety of problems that arose from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Honda on Thursday officially launched its mini MPV.

While keeping the five-seat layout of the regular Fit (called Jazz in Europe), the Shuttle is longer and taller, with the extra space benefiting both the rear passengers and the cargo area.

The more practical version of the Fit is offered in two flavors, the base model powered by a conventional 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder gasoline engine and a hybrid variant combining a 1.3-liter gasoline unit to a 10 KW electric motor.

The hybrid model is available only with front-wheel drive and a CVT, while the regular Fit Shuttle can be ordered either with front-wheel drive and a CVT or with all-wheel drive and 5-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing of the Japan-only Fit Shuttle starts at ¥1,610,000 (~US$20,030), with the hybrid model commanding ¥1,810,000 (~US$22,500).

As usual, people will start bashing Honda design, but for me the Japanese weirdness that we used to love its still there. That strange look similar to the various Civic versions: Shuttle, Aerodeck, Country. And at least the Jazz/Fit still retains that great balance between price, fun, quality, reliability, practicality, that made Japanese cars famous.

This car will sell well in asia as for them this is the equivalent to a Suburban.

wow this Honda is plan ugly and thinking this car is ugly is not bashing it anon2. We all have our own thoughts and mine is this is one very ugly looking car. I would never buy it. I would buy a Honda accord coupe or sedan. to be honest the rest of the Honda line up is ugly. sorry some times the truth hurts. I am sure though there are alot of people who just want a dependable car and do not care if it is ugly so Honda will do ok, though fopr me loving cars I do want a good looking car to drive in and honda can not give me that except for the accord.

ANONYMOUS no.3!

You are so damn right it hurts, and wish I could put it as well as you just did. Bring back that Japanese quirkiness we used to know & love.

Honda. Golden.

Hey Honda, Citroen DS3 just called, it wants its "shark" C-pillar back.
(also it just look like a current Jazz/Fit with an oversized backpack)

What about giving it smaller/more modern headlights ?

You would think Honda would try to create a good looking exterior for their model but the best Honda can do is offer up something that makes the Pontiac Aztec look sexy.

"As usual, people will start bashing Honda design"

And rightly so. Have you seen the skin cancers that have been called Hondas and Acuras in the last 5 years?

Historically, Hondas conservative styling was never one to make someone cringe or to make someone excitable. It worked and Honda kept on trucking. Why they decided to stumble and take acid before design a car is beyond anyone.

As for Japanese quirkiness, they had it, and it's not a lost trait. It's just been blurred.

For examples: Nissan once gave us great cars like the 300ZX. Now they offer the Juke.

The rear looks really good with those clear transparent instead of the reds. Front is familiar sharp styling Jazz. Overall Lovely.

The embodiment of bad design. This car looks like ass.

I for one happen to like the Fit Shuttle and hope the Honda will bring it to the USA. Let's see an Explorer sized cargo hold and the nimbleness and economy of a Fit!

C-pillar fail.

For the people calling me Honda employee, I'm not and I drive a Citroen, lol.
The comments prove my point. As always with japanese cars, some people really love the quirkiness and practicality the rest calls it ugly. I agree there was a time where the Japanese cars where slightly better in the looks department, but the difference its not that great. PS: to the people screaming "I will never buy an Honda", have fun with your "all look the same Audi".

" Let's see an Explorer sized cargo hold and the nimbleness and economy of a Fit!"

Won't happen.

The reason: a Fit can't hold a 4X8.
