Toyota Europe Officially Presents 2012 Yaris, Sales Start this Summer

|

We first brought you news on the European version of third generation Yaris hatchback on Wednesday, but today, Toyota followed up with initial details on its VW Polo and Ford Fiesta rival.

Toyota’s newcomer in the European supermini segment will manufactured at the Japanese firm’s Valenciennes factory in France with sales to start before the end of this summer.

At launch, the 2012 Yaris will be offered with three different engines, two of which run on gasoline, the 1.0-litre VVT-i and 1.33-litre dual VVT-I, and the other, a 1.4-litre D-4D, on diesel. A hybrid version based on the 2011 Geneva Motor Show concept car has been confirmed for next year with more details to be released at a later date.

The Japanese automaker said the new Yaris will offer affordable multimedia connectivity with the introduction of Toyota Touch & Go featuring a rather large 6.1-inch display with touch screen technology. According to the company, it will be standard equipment on 95 per cent of sales.

Commenting on the introduction of the new Yaris, Didier Leroy, President and CEO Toyota Motor Europe, said: “[The] New Yaris represents Toyota’s strongest offer yet in the important supermini segment. With its new levels of ingenuity, efficiency and quality, we are confident it can build upon Yaris’s previous success and help Toyota rejuvenate its presence in Europe and move towards one million annual sales in the region in the medium term.”

not bad looking, This will do fine agaianst the last generation of hyundai models in third world countrys. now what will toyota bring to america that will look updated and not outdated like this model already does?

I know this is a economy car and all, but why does the dashboard scream very cheap plastic. I can't help but see GM models cues of the late eighties in this MY12 yaris design. This car will do poorly in the USA if this is the best effort Toyota can put forward in the design of this car. the outside is nice but boring and, well never mind my grandma will like this car as she does not care if it looks boring and cheap. I hope Toyota keep this model priced under every other new model to help justify this awful model for sale. Forget calling it Yaris, call it Boris for boring or Chepris for the cheap look it displays all though out the whole design inside and out.

I think putting conventional dashboard was a mistake. I drive Yaris and gauges in the middle is may favorite feature, especialy when driving at nigt. Over all nice upgrade. 8/10

I'm sorry but the Japanese seem not to be able (again) to make a good looking car for european standards... Is it possible to be compared with the design of the Alfa Mito for example? Also nothing new about the engines, when other manufactures have turbo engines with less CO2 emissions

Byuutifullla! Gorgeous, well packaged and is a Toyota.

Freaking ugly car! Badly packaged, uncompetitive engines and is a Toyota.

I don't understand why Toyota continue to keep coming up with these awful looking models?

the Verna wagon
the 2011 scion Tc and OK all the rest of scion
The plaque of second and third ugly FT86 concepts.
the Lexus wagon hybrid which only gets 2 more mpg then a plain Jane Hyundai elantra with no hybrid system.

now Toyota shows this monstrosity. Toyota needs to fire their car designers.

Is this a modern take on a AMC pacer?

Kool dashboard, the dashboard reminds me of my old saturn SC2 dashboard from 1999 which I love a lot. I like the interior of this car. there is something about the exterior , it seem to look 70's retro looking but I like it.

You have Italian Chic, their gorgeous lil cars but are unreliable and of bad quality, but this is on another level. Its Toyota gorgeous.
I like it, Both a the interior and exterior. Winner.

Another ugly car from Toyota with absolutely no design and creativity. Looks bad inside and out. Toyota "designers": Hmm, can't think of how to design the rear lights, let's just do a cut and paste from the Honda Jazz. Ok, let me add the squarish, pig ugly front too. Done!

This a gorgeous car, well proportioned. Have to get my hands on this for my daily ride. Goes great with my Weekend GT-R!

1.33 100hp 7speed CVT with 118g/km CO2... I don't see the rivals anywhere near that... And how about the Yaris HSD comming in March? The Yaris rivals are years behind in terms of Toyota technology. BTW Turbo = Reduced engine life and more costly service and wear and tear.
