What a Tease…Honda Announces All-New 2012 CR-V on its U.S. Website

|

Honda is trying to build some suspense around its forthcoming, brand-new 2012 CR-V crossover by making an announcement on its U.S. market website. All we get for now is a picture of a tunnel and a press blurb that doesn’t really say much other than that Honda will be revealing the successor to the current CR-V bit by bit in the next few months.

If you don’t feel like visiting Honda’s site, here’s what it says:

“With a new design—both inside and out, new features and new possibilities, the 2012 CR-V will set a new standard for the class. As a top-selling crossover for over five years, expectations for the 2012 CR-V are high and we're confident they will not only be met, but exceeded. Much more will be revealed over the next several months so be sure to sign up on this page to receive updates.”

The next iteration of the CR-V is expected to feature an uprated four-cylinder engine with a little more power and improved fuel efficiency over the current 2.4-liter lump, while the European version of the crossover will also be offered with a diesel unit. We’ve also heard rumors about the availability of a third-row of seats, but this has not been confirmed by Honda officials.

More to come in the next few weeks.

Surely they will make it better looking than the current junk

Judging from how little Honda did with the so called new Civic--I suspect the CR-V will be just as disappointing and underwhelming(ie same carryover styling, dated 5 speed auto and a carryover engine)--as Honda has truly lost its way and is in need of new leaders that will move Honda away form its conservative

@ anonymous - "Junk"?! Popular, well-made and reliable maybe...

I liked the original. Then the styling of the subsequent versions just got worse and worse...

If the styling trend of Honda's current model line up is anything to go by... it'll be fugly!

Come on Honda, surprise me! The Koreans are coming!

a little late, the space (with the above image) on the website to begin gradually showing the cr-v as it nears production has been there long ago... about the time the prototypes of the '12 were posted. not meant to be a teaser at this stage, but merely notification to any visiting the site that a new highly anticipated vehicle is due out shortly.

honda, scoring just below #1 lexus in this year's j.d. powers highly respected quality study still sells an extremely healthy number of the class leading best selling cr-v's in its last year of production in the cr-v's current form. amazing :)

my wife has owned three cr-v's and we are stoked about the all new replacement due out shortly. what a great suv/crossover. we look forward to the 2012 cr-v!

^ Agreed. Not a teaser. Just an "FYI". I, too, look forward to the next generation CR-V and signed up for updates. Honda did well in the 2011 J.D Power's study, CR and maintaining best selling status in retail sales with under 1.9 % of all sales going into fleets. The lowest in the industry. AMAZING! That why I love my Acura TL.

Honda gain is the benchmark. Great reporting, Carscoop. Your coverage on quality supports my experiences with Lexus (a 2008 LS) and Honda (1998, 1990. 1993, 1998, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011 Accords). Never a single flaw with any of these cars, nor our 2011 Honda Odyssey Limited.

i hope the 2012 isn't too huge a departure. it is one great small buy roomy suv. as i recall, in the top 10 for how many years? a cool awd, also available in fwd. ours is perfect for the snowbelt here in buffalo, ny

Hopefully improves on current. No need to make it bigger. Just more comfortable seats (Ford has some nice seats lately) and a real console not a dumb table. Make it quieter, more powerful and a 6+ sp auto. Improve visibility. Keep the current beltline height. The high belt line thing is ugly and ruins visibility and will date easily. Its a best seller, so just improve on the weakpoints. More front seat legroom would be nice and a fat thick armrest (see 93 accord). Also, don't make it a 7 passenger. That's ridiculous.

I find it interesting that those casting stones at Honda do so seemingly for no other reason than looks. To each their own but these cars sell very well, are very reliable and dependable and with 4WD I can't tell you all the jams they get their owners out of in the winter months. Owners tend to be quite loyal to them also. Try to cut a little slack for all that's beneath the skin and if you can't, don't buy them. There are plenty of people waiting to.

I hope the CR-V is not ugly like the 2012 civic models are

well last time I checked anon 11 , Most people do buy cars based on looks as well as other reasons too .

really other then being a Honda fan boy then you should not really be shocked to see people casting stones at Honda based on looks because looks are a important factor in buying a car.

Open your mind before you comment.

@ anon 13
You cannot break your dick bone and you simply cannot throw stones at Honda Golden.

Keep the CRV the same size, 6+ sp auto, quieter, have the back window squared off (rather than curve)for better visibility. Not bad vehicle now, just make improvements. Don't raise the beltline- that design is getting silly and won't age well. Drop that table thing and put in a real console with a sliding armrest or a fat armrest on seat. The current one is too thin. Most Honda buyers are loyal, so dependabilty counts more than swoopy trendy design.

2.4L NA engine and 5AT are already confirmed. So appears to be 'Civic' like in it's intro.
