Police Forces in Georgia and Iowa Sold on GM’s New Chevy Caprice PPV

|

General Motors has began delivering its first 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) to law enforcement officers across the U.S. Among the first to receive GM’s new patrol car are police departments in Forsyth County, Georgia and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said that after trying out the Chevy for a month his office decided to replace its current fleet of around 175 other patrol vehicles with Caprice PPVs.

“With its emphasis on the ergonomically designed seats for officer comfort, and enhanced safety features, the Caprice is a vehicle that is made for police work,” said Paxton. “We’ve had our vehicles for a month, and we’re sold. This will be a worthwhile investment.”

Another early adopter is Dennis Hogan, Fleet Services manager in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

“We view the police vehicle as an extended office for our officers,” Hogan said. “We chose the Caprice, because it delivers optimal officer operational space, trunk and storage space, and generally provides our officers the most-suitable operating environment.”

The new Holden-based Caprice PPV is currently offered with a 6.0-liter V8 engine pumping out 355 horsepower and 384 lb-ft torque, but a smaller 3.6-liter V6 with direct-injection will join the range in the near future.

6 liter V8 engine????? Is that the "green" future of the USA? Are you kidding?
the usa should learn from the EU governments. (and please: don't start saying that germany has porsche police cars, or italy has lamborghini police cars... germany has maybe ten of them and italy maybe 5.. but not 175!!!!!
What a waste of money and petrol/gas... pollution for free!

Read the story, it also states a 3.6 liter v6 that is SIMULA to the 6 little v8 will join the police car line up soon.

Also comparing the police cars of the USA to the UK is like putting apples against oranges esp when you look at how different both the USA and UK uses their police cruisers.

You should able to get one at a police auction in a few years. Or call the guys that are selling old American police cars in the UK. I'll bet they'd be glad to take your money!

In Australia, where they are designed and made, there is a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fuel option, that fuel is about half the price of petrol in Australia. They can also run on bioethanol.
And, as mentioned, there is the 3.6 litre V6 option too.
The civilian versions of it go on sale in US in 2014, I think, the Holden VF Commodore sold as a Chevy Lumina. With those engine options, as per the Pontiac G8 and G6 (also a Holden Commodore).
