VW Begins Series Production of 2012 Beetle in Mexico

|

Volkswagen announced that it has commenced regular production of the 2012 Beetle at its factory in Puebla, Mexico, where its predecessor was also built. To mark the occasion, Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, and Board Member for Production and Logistics at VW Passenger Cars Hubert Waltl visited the plant in Puebla.

“The Beetle is a strong symbol of our brand. It combines the emotional heritage of the original Beetle with the future of Volkswagen,” said Hubert Waltl .

“The new Beetle and the engine plant we are building in Silao represent the great confidence we place in Mexico as a manufacturing location. As one of the main manufacturers of compact class vehicles, Volkswagen de México is a key building block in our growth strategy for North America” the VW official added.

The Puebla factory is the largest automotive plant in Mexico. It already supplies North and South America with the new Jetta and the Golf Variant. It employs 15,000 workers and its annual production in 2010 was 435,000 units.

Is this how the Mexican drug cartels intend to smuggle drugs across US borders, hordes of Beetles? Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds...whoops...that's another Beatle.

Does VW have a policy against hiring women? Afterall, aren't women the potential buyers of this car?

If the '12 Beetle is anything like it's predecesor, FORGET IT! Problems with electronics, headlights that constantly burn our, and other quality issues turned me off to VW in general (I owned two New Beetles, one being a TDI that I loved, but was problematic). VW's quality at their Puebla facility seems to have been lacking in the past. Hopefully those issues have been fixed. The 2012 seems to have lost a lot of the NB fun-factor, and while it may be a more refined car, it's also a more bland car as well. Good luck, VW......

Apparently, you haven't seen the 2012 Beetle. Bland doesn't come close to describing the 21st century Beetle. It is sportier with more standard options than the previous Beetle.  It's just out and already we can't keep them in stock.
