It’s no secret that rappers like to show off their expensive and usually over the top blinged-up luxury cars in their music videos as a means to prove their status. However, world-famous artists Kanye West and Jay-Z may have gone a little too far in their new “Otis” music video.
The two rappers obviously wanted to do something different than just flaunt their ultra-expensive sets of wheels, so they grabbed a welding torch and a metal cutting saw and obliterated a $300,000 Maybach.
Who knows, maybe they thought it looked better that way... You can watch the video after the jump.

An utter idiotic display of wanton excess when the world is in such disparity. Not only youth lost, but youth gone to hell.
They didn't even do a good job with it.
To be fair, at the rate that Maybach's depreciate, and considering when they actually did this, the car was worth $80K tops.
In this world there will always be haters... Will it change your life?? I don't think so. With the economic crisis I think some bankers have lost more money than just the price of a Mayback. At least they will donate the money for a good cause.

Actually, you're onto something as in the entertainment industry they will write it off as being worth full value and used as part of promotion. The entertainment industry likes to make sport of never paying taxes.

You're missing a huge part of the story here. That modded maybach is going to be auctioned off and the proceeds donated to benefit famine relief in East Africa. I may not agree with what they did to the car, but the end result is honorable enough.

I can't really bring myself to watch the video. There's just something about the idea of purposely destroying a $300,000 car that upsets me a bit - and I'm not all together sure why. It's shocking, I guess. Which is certainly what they are going for...

How 'bout they just donate $300K? Just a stupid publicity stunt to make people angry/discus. I bet they donate themselves if the bids don't add up to $300,000 so they don't look like chumps. Because just donating 300k doesn't draw attention to the issue. While you may see a stupid publicity stunt, it did draw attention to the famine relief programs in East Africa. In all honesty, I don't see what's wrong with destroying a car no one really cares about.
funny how you forget to mention that the car is being donated to a charity auction. High end cars are destroyed constantly on movie sets but i don't see you bitching about that.
It's not just these two jokers but many in the entertainment business or high level execs, for example, in this country who could peel a million off the top of their elevated incomes and hardly notice. Think of the good that could come from that!
