SCOOP: 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe / iX45 Receives a Complete Overhaul

|

If you take a look at Hyundai's North American lineup, you'll find four models that look outdated and worn out compared to the rest of the range.

These include the Elantra Touring, which could be replaced by the next generation of the European market i30 Touring, the Azera, whose successor will be shown in LA later this year, and finally the Santa Fe and its larger sibling, the Veracruz.

Similarly, in Europe, the outcasts include the i30, a new version of which will debut in Frankfurt and again, the Santa Fe. Leaving aside the Veracruz, which is essentially a byproduct of the Sante Fe, on both continents, Hyundai is missing a modern proposal in the popular mid-size crossover segment.

But that's about to change soon as the South Korean automaker is developing a successor to the Santa Fe, which will probably carry the iX45 moniker in Europe following the example of the new Tucson that was renamed to iX35.

Different names aside, the European and North American Santa Fe will share the same basic styling with some minor trim variations and mechanical hardware. They will however, be offered with different engines as Europe will certainly get a four-cylinder diesel unit.

As you can see in the close-up picture, the European specification Santa Fe prototype nabbed by our scoop photographers was equipped with a 2.0-liter engine hooked up to a manual transmission.

While still under heavy camouflage, it's obvious that the next generation Santa Fe will feature a modern look heavily influenced by the latest Tuscon / iX35. The same goes for the interior that sports a double binnacle design for the instrument panel.

We expect to see Hyundai's new crossover model making its debut either late next year or in early 2013.

Resemblance? http://tinyurl.com/3lmrp56 [2013 Chevy Malibu] The gauge cluster/design and steering wheel are awfully close.
The rear window sill/line is way too high, and the rear handle rides high with it. Small children will have a hard time looking out and reaching the handle.
Also the front end is looking heavy. I suppose the veil could obscure it's true proportions, but there's a lot of bumper forwards of the wheel.

Wow Mitchell, lets clear up some stuff, first the cluster area on this Santa Fe , if there is a resemblance to the 2013 Malibu, then it stole it's look from the 2011 Hyundai sonata as the cluster on this Santa Fe looks a lot like that of the sonata and well for that matter rest of the Hyundai KIA line up, of cause seeing the Malibu was half designed in Korea by GMKorea, i can see why the Malibu cluster has a strong resemblance to the 2011 sonata, now that the cluster issue is solved, on to how great the Santa Fe looks so far from what I can see, Hyundai has anther smash hit on their hands indeed. Kids will love riding in this and enjoy the great views, lol sorry i had to mess with mitchell and his lame kids point...

wow. I was just commenting on the design from my opinion. And I never thought about the GM/Korea cross design, my bad. and the high window sill is a completely legitimate claim and flaw. But you just had to be an asshole about it. Guess somebody owns a Hyundai/Kia...

That tooo high waistline is horrible definitely.
if people want to have a sportive looking impractical thing they will go and buy a X6.

in the same way IMHO kia sportage is way more handsome than İX35.
if ends up like this SF will be just a magnified tuscon.

There was nothing wrong with your observations.  "Guest" obviously has a stick up his butt.  There was no reason for him/her to be that rude.

LOL I just read the whole argument! (: oh how entertaining. :3 ANYWAY I feel this car is a great step forward for the santa fe through my observations. I do wonder if an all-new Veracruz will come out. I know the Veracruz was a flop in sales but Hey if Hyundai was capable of making their whole line-up great... then why not the Veracruz? (: Now, I myself wasn't a fan of the Veracruz but I want Hyundai to make me one! >:) Hyundai FTW

Hyundai has to do a better job updating their vehicles.  The introduction of the most current design language was so drastic, it made existing products look out of date almost immediately.  Hyundai needs to work on updating its otherwise unchanged products.  They should scrap the Veracruz and work on a Genesis-based crossover.

This is shaping up to be avery good looking replacement for the santa Fe. Mitchel get over yourself. how can you even suggest what you suggested when these are really some of the first spy photo's of the santa fe Judging from the rest of hyundai recent line up and sale march, this should do well with familys and single people. I like how the back window slops up in the back.and the waist line is perfect on this.

Oh god. It's awful. It's disgusting. I own a 2010 Santa Fe and I love it. I own a 2003 Santa Fe, and love it even more.

stick to the basics Hyundai.

We wait with very impatience this hyundai santa fe ni. Why open pictures (photos)??? Why go out (climb) to (the) selling??? We went and we could not find dubaya for this/these there. It is 10 necessary to us. If he (she, it) is/are late and let us buy (get, receive) another (firm) model
