If Mercedes-Benz manages to keep the new A-Class under wraps, we will most likely get our first look at the five-door hatchback version at next month's Frankfurt auto show.
And while we're patiently waiting for the standard A-Class to be officially revealed, our spy photographers moved on to the next big thing from Mercedes as they managed to capture the flagship AMG model testing in Germany.
The prototype model is distinguished first and foremost by the two large tailpipes at the rear and the larger, AMG-style alloy wheels shod in chunkier tires that hide the beefier braking system.
There's a lot of secrecy surrounding the mechanical hardware of the new A-Class AMG, but it is suggested that power may come from a heavily modified four-cylinder turbo engine delivering somewhere around 300 ponies to all four wheels.
The same powertrain will also find its way in the still under development baby CLS sports sedan, which is based on a modified version of the new A-Class' platform architecture.
Like all AMG models, the hotted up A-Class will feature an upgraded chassis with changes to the suspension and the steering wheel systems to provide a more responsive handling as well a comprehensive suite of bespoke styling parts inside and out.
