Hyundai has released some new chatter regarding the second generation of its i30 compact hatchback that will make its grand debut at next week's 64th International Auto Show in Frankfurt
The South Korean car manufacturer's Ford Focus and VW Golf challenger will go on sale in Europe as a five-door hatchback in the Spring of 2012.
Buyers will have a choice of two direct-injection gasoline engines with a displacement of 1.4-liters and 1.6-liters, and two CRDi turbo diesels, again with a displacement of 1.4-liters and 1.6-liters.
All the available engines are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, while in the case of stronger gasoline and diesel versions Hyundai will also offer an optional six-speed automatic transmission.
For the first time in a Hyundai car of this size, the i30 will be available with a knee airbag for the driver, adaptive headlights, instruments with a high-resolution TFT LCD display and an electric parking brake.
Other available options will include a large panoramic sunroof and an integrated navigation system with a 7-inch color monitor and a rearview camera.
Like its predecessor, the new i30 has been designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
The i30's styling represents a further evolution of Hyundai's ‘fluidic sculpture’ form language with both the exterior and interior design modeled closely after the i40 sedan / estate series.
Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre, commented: “The new-generation i30 is recognisable thanks to the Hyundai family face with its signature hexagonal-shaped front grille and the jewel-like design of the headlamps, together with distinctive daytime running lights. These lights present an angular shape within a more softly-edged recess, adding a strong personality to the vehicle, as well as a sense of refinement and luxury.”
“Through the profile of the new generation i30, a strong character line runs over the front and rear wheelarches all the way to the tail lamps. A softer, lower character line rises up the car’s flank creating a play of light and shadow – a fundamental feature of fluidic sculpture,” Thomas Bürkle concluded.
The South Korean automaker said more body styles will be added to the i30's range in the near future, without, however, disclosing any specific details.
The only version of the outgoing i30 that is sold in the United States, is the i30 Tourer marketed as the Elantra Tourer.

i love Hyundai's new designs
I love hyundai's new designs!!!! they r great
the car is beautiful! it's a mix of the best cars on the market. a little bit of the Peugeot 308 and Alfa Romeo Giulietta! Long live Hyundai and Kia, they're the best these days!
I dont like the Design of this Car.
... and i know that it will be not so reliable like other japanese Quality Products.
Hyundais Growth was too fast, so we will see in the future what failures were done by them.
I would never buy such a Car if i could have a nice Honda or Toyota.
I would like to see this car in person. I bet it is even more beautiful in real life then pictures. I agree MKR8 Hyundai's new designs are indeed great..I just wonder how long before a Hyundai troll hater comes along to bash it because they know it is indeed a great designed car.
Dont you think it has a lot of hints and design features from the current mazda 3 up front.
Its actually quite copied.. however good design .. very nice interior
Honda and Toyota and slid so far down on the build quality, reliability and styling these past few years that you'd be buying a far poorer product if you go with either of those manufacturers
Oh, Christian just did..
Too much chrome for European tastes, which is strange because you would think they would have reserved the chrome for the American-market Elantra.
...and the Hyundai fanboy posts are amusing.
Gosh the bloody hyundai PR Internet brigade is out in force praising Hyundai to the sky..Uglier than an ugly duckling, unbalanced design with lots of messy lines ibtersectig at every angle, fluidic sculpture from the toilet bowls more like it.
I own a late model Toyota today and have owned a Celica and two MR2s.
However, I am very disappointed at Toyota's designs the past few years.
This i30 is a very nicely done car and I would be happy to jump ship and
go with it if Toyota keeps designing boring looking cars. The only design hope I see coming from Toyota is in the upcoming FT86 variant.
very nice...beautiful... I cant describe it..
I am sure Toyota will ruin the FT-86,BTW Toyota there was a school bus model named Thomas built buses FS-65 from 1965 to 2007...lol I wonder who came up with that lame name for the toyota..Nothing inspires a sports call like having a name close to that of a school bus model.LOL
Of cause I would feel much safer in that school b us then that Toyota. Toyota's let face it has had a pretty shaky reputation for good reliability and being prone to causing deadly crashes. Thanks I will stay in my Hyundai so I know I am safe or buy a nice used school bus...LOL
Heck, tonka toys would be more reliable then a Toyota..
I know Christian, look how Hyundai had all those recalls for mats that stuck on the gas and brake pedal that has caused 100's of deaths and many many many more accidents.. Oh wait no that was Toyota...yea you keep your toyota, just do me a favor, please stay far away from me when your on the road. I know you can't help that your driving junk but I still would rather you keep that dangerous toyota of yours far away from my safe hyundai, OK?
I like this car a lot. I look forward to seeing it in person. I'm also seriously considering it for purchase.
One more thing. I'm hoping I can get one with a moonroof but without leather and navigation. We'll see.
I like the design, looking forward to my next i30...however...is Hyundai adhering to the typically German approach os 'one design fits all' now?
OK i meant the reliability of toyota.
i drive 11 years honda and i even like the New models much more than this Korean stuff.
I never had Problems with my Honda even if the Cars are from 1984 or so...
Look at Hyundais and Kias History and look at Hondas.
Hyundai and Kia startet with the poorest Cars you could imagine.
Cheap licence build cars. Very "nice" tradition.
Look at the first Hondas (SD 500,S600,S800/T360 T500)
THIS was historic mashines.
When i drive in my honda, i realyy KNOW and FEEL this tradition in this car (especially the 7 years of formula one wins)
Honda made and makes its think without other makes.
Every Honda has the best Engine, even motorbikes, Power equipment etc.
Hyundai has nothing for me...
Well, if u think that way, then your world is very small, and your lack of intelligence makes you blind... Your Hondas from 30 years ago were using 80 or 90 percent less of electronics, and when Hyundai was starting building cars without any experience , it was electronic and computing boom in the cars those days and not just Hyundai had problems with that... Most of that credit , that Koreans were junks, was the electronics , not mechanics... I owned the 95 Honda Civic and I junked it when it had 165k miles, while my neighbor still driving 95 Elantra and it looks much better then 95 civic... But that's not the point! Point is: while Hyundai offering one of the best designs , more standard features, better engines, better fuel economy , V8 engines comparable with Germans , guaranteed resale value , targeting luxury segment with ease, same reliability ( if not better then Honda), same time Honda is offering dull uninspiring designs, still finding the way to luxury with it's Acura , not recommended anymore, and making steps backward, !?! That means: Hyundai has much more to offer then Honda.
If Hyundai has nothing for you then move on ...
In 1984 Honda was spot on with their products and moved up to bypass America and Europe in quality. It's almost 30 years later now and as much history as Honda has it's only as good as the last car someone owned. Hyundai is on a roll right now so if Honda, Toyota and everyone else wants to compete then they need to step up with something better than the same boring Civic's, Camry's, and Cruz's.
lmao dude you should really catch up on cars history; ever heard of AE-86 (Hachiroku)? well the FT-86 is a tribute to the mentioned one.
@e73a7a1db6025d0ccd515a7b608ec23c
I am working on a car sale in Germany.
We have also very much Huyndais and Kias here.
My Opinion is that even the 10 Years old cars are poorer than every other Make.
Transmissions broken, Engines running on 3 Cylinders etc.
Only stress with that cars.
so i am the first to build an opinion, and not you because your neighbour is lucky with his hyundai.
i never said that my cars are 30 years old.
i had very much hondas.
Civics Crx Jazzs Prelude Accords Legends.
All Aged between 1984 and 1996.
I never had Problems.
Only Oil Change, brakes change that was all...
I really dont like Hyundai :-)
If i sell a hyundai or kia i only have to wait maximum 2 Month and the telephone rings
and the owner tells me about Problems.
Even with the 2005 Kia Sportage for Example i sold (Transmission broken).
I never had problems with customers which bought a honda by me, never!
If your lack of intelligence makes you blind then buy this Korean crap and be happy with it.
I never will think positiv about korean Cars.
Nice looks. looks like a massaged Mazda 3. Silouette is exact from front to rear the character lines are identical
Yay! Another car besides VW that can be diesel in the US! Awesome, I wonder if it beats the VW TDI in MPG, certainly looks better
Hey Christian, did u noticed what's going on in auto world? Well, at least check the other stories about Hyundai on carscoop and get the picture! Just for example : while Honda still offering 5 speed auto in new cars, Hyundai has 8speed and working on 10 speed auto, damn , it's 5 gears short,!?! And if u talk about quality, I'm personally work for Hyundai - Kia dealer as "grease monkey" in service shop and I can say: "they don't break!!! " Usually oil changes, brakes, filters, that's all... They built as precisely as japs...
you sir have no idea
