Our Spies get Up, Close and Personal with the Toyota FT-86 by Gazoo Racing

|

We are still a couple of months away from the world premiere of the series production Toyota FT-86 at the Tokyo Motor Show in December, but on Saturday, October 15, the rear-wheel drive coupe will make its racing debut at the VLN endurance racing championship on the Nürburgring track.

The race-prepped FT-86 has been developed by Toyota's motorsports partner Gazoo Racing and it is based on the actual production model that goes on sale next year.

After the first crop of pictures that we showed you on Thursday, our crafty spies were able to get very close to the racecar during testing at the pits and on the track, and even shot some photos if the FT-86's interior.

Leaving the safety- and motorsport-related goods on the side, it appears that many parts of the cabin such as the dashboard and door panels are from the production car. We can also see that the tachometer goes up to 9,000 rpm, with the red line starting at 7,500 rpm.

Neither Gazoo Racing or Toyota have released any information on the race-specification FT-86, but it is likely that it features a tuned version of the standard model's 2.0-liter boxer engine sourced from Subaru.

it looks pretty good for a Toyota but i just know somehow Toyota will mess it up like the recent un redesigned 2012 Toyota Camry that is nothing to scream about

So is this going to be the new Supra? I like Toyota's thinking, simple light weight sports car with a small turbo charged engine
