Singapore Company Selling Off 150 Brand-New 1997 Chrysler Neons

|

To answer your first question, no, we do not know how a Singapore based company got a hold of 150 allegedly brand-new 1997 Chrysler Neon sedans with zero mileage.

The ad along with a single picture showing some of the Neon cars covered in layers and layers of dust was posted by Arete Trading Pte Ltd. on Alibaba, which is an Asian online marketplace.

What we can tell you is that, while in North America the Neon was sold under the Dodge and Plymouth brand names, it was marketed as a Chrysler in other regions around the world.

All 150 Neons posted for sale are right-hand drive examples with the Singapore-based company asking for $1,350 a piece.

If you have any ideas of what one could do with 150 Neons, feel free to post your thoughts in the comments section below.

I still remember the Ad on TV in Australia!...."The NEW Chrysler Neon, from $24880, its a car worth getting excited about!"  Thats right 25k!! OMG what a fat waste of money that would have been.  I think they are all dead and burried now.  What a dud model.  The only sold a few....

Even thought he Neon always gets tons of criticism, I still see (unfortunately) many of them on the road, especially the first generation.  They were cheap to run and easy to repair.  I had one for eight years and 190,000 miles and just had to replace the usual stuff that goes bad over time on any automobile.  Finally just got tired of it and sold it.  It's still running, five years after I sold it.  No, it wasn't the best car, but it did the job of basic transport.  I'm just glad I was able to sell it and step up to a better car.  I definitely would not recommend buying one of these vintage examples.

My brother had an Acura & a Neon.  The Neon was roomier, smoother riding, had better gas mileage and was quicker 0-60.  It was also half the price of the Acura.  Both were the same age (he got both of them new).  Reliability of both cars was about equal (in terms of frequency of repairs--not parts price).

i just wanna kno how to get 1 to the united states and how much it would cost to ship it and go threw customs................i have a 98 dodge neon and i love my neon.......every 1 laughs at me but when they wanna race me and i pull away they dont laugh n e more........instead they stop and ask what i have and stand there in disbelieve.....my neon has 106,000 miles on it and still going strong. so to get 1 to the usa with the right hand drive and the car club im in would literally be the ONLY 1 IN THE U.S.A....... thanx to all for reading my post crazedbird out............................CRAZED ILLUSIONZ

Forget about importing one into the US.  If a vehicle wasn't built to US spec for emissions and crash-testing it would be either incrediby expensive or impossible to get it through US customs.  That's not even consider the shipping cost.

I love my '97 Neon.  I've got 125K miles (201K km) on it, and it still runs like new.  I've never treated it like a "disposable car."  I have changed the oil religiously every 2000 miles (3200 km), coolant every fall, and have done the timing belt and spark plug changes on schedule.  I don't know any one that bought their Neons new and maintained them that was dissatisfied with them.  The only people that I know that have hated on Neons bought them third-hand, and the previous owners changed the oil every 10K miles (15K km) with the cheapest oil they could find.  There were a lot of people that drove their Neons for five years and never changed the oil.  Promote a car as "disposable" and people will treat it as such.  Interesting fact, 3 year old Neons with 30K miles (45K km) sold for about US$3500.  15 year old Neons with 125K miles (201K km) sell for the same price.  I love my Neon!  I know people that have gotten almost 300K miles (483K km) out of their Neons, and others that ran flawlessly for over 200K miles (323K km).  I coveted my sister's '99 Neon for my wife, but she won't give it up.  I got my wife an '09 PT Cruiser instead.  We love the way it looks, but Mother MoPar would have done better to offer the PT Cruiser with a 2.7L FlexFuel V6 in the USA.
