The big news for Cadillac today was the presentation of the all-new XTS full-size luxury sedan, and we've got some fresh pictures as well as two new videos including one that shows the car on the road (admittedly, not in the best quality) to share with you.
There's been some confusion about which segment the XTS belongs to since it will replace two models in Cadillac's range, the rear-/all-wheel drive STS and the front-wheel drive only DTS.
While the new XTS is Cadillac's largest sedan and as such, should be the brand's flagship saloon model, it does not target the likes of the BMW 7 Series nor the Mercedes S-Class.
Instead, it is sized between the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class type of models, and will be likely priced much lower than either of those two cars. In other words, the same mix-up caused by the current CTS, which slots between the BMW 3- and 5-Series models.
You can read more about the XTS in our detailed post here, but as a reminder, the new Cadillac will be offered only with a 300HP 3.6-liter V6 engine matched to a 6sp automatic transmission, and the option of either front- or all-wheel drive.

this is easily the most decadent car to hit the 31 thousand dollar price segmant ever. I can't wait to trade in my Altima.
Woah! A bigger CTS!
Cadillac missed the boat on this one...the only chance it has is if the next Toyota Avalon is a dissapointment like the new Camry
This model will do for Cadillac what the first-generation CTS did—save the Cadillac lineup while adding the needed top-end. Likely to be a sellout model. GM can screw-up matters should they overprice it (current lineup is overpriced by five percent) and if they tout it for what's it not. GM must take an different trek than others with Cadillac to regain luxury status from its current near-luxury status.
Until Cadillac can present a true alternative to a Mercedes S Class, it will never achieve its goals as a luxury mark it once was.
The CTS needs to move upmarket to challenge the 5 Series and E Class and A6, and XF. And it is sooooo close, the CTS should nail it.
The upcoming ATS should be a worthy rival of the newly released 3 Series, complete with a V model that can challenge the M3.
This XTS is pointless. The STS should have been reimagined and relaunched. Right now, there is NO alternative to the German, Japanese and British large luxury sedans; that is what people want...an Escalade-like four door sedan.
The last generation Infiniti Q45 died not because it was a turd but because it did not compete well with its competitors. The XTS will be another 5 to 7 year run of rubbish that will end up being a waste of money for Cadillac.
That is statement is wrong on so many levels, its not even based on the CTS....somebody get this "garbage" outta here...
We are in changing world times (e.g. oil reserves) and luxury can be defined on several levels. If Cadillac starts refining this model they can be luxury-class. Large engines are not synonymous, at least not for me, regarding luxury. It's the package as a whole that counts. I going to give Cadillac credit for this model and believe it will be a success. The actual sales numbers will be the test. We'll just have to wait and see.
P.S. The STS has such bad connotations it is best Cadillac let it die as they are.
I'm pretty active on this site so I'll say it again...brands like Caddy, Acura, Infinit need flagship sedans and halo sports cars. Look at Audi. One could argue that the shift started with Ronin over a decade ago with the S8 taking centre stage and then in the Transporter a few years back. S8 kept them relevant and people's appetite in tact. Maybe they weren't grabbing it when offered but having it on the menu made it relevant.
The R8 just made us slobber. It isn't even that great of a car and in fact, doesn't do anything particularly well...except from a branding perspective. Toss that into any rap video or mainstream TV show and people are attracted to Audi immediately. When one rolls down the street, you stop and stare. If anything, it has done for audi what the S8 could never do and that is moving from near-luxury to luxury.Cadillac tried the halo car with the XLR and failed miserably because it was junk with the caddy wreath slapped on. A heavy corvette with a maxed out price tag but none of the benefits. Lipstick on a pig.
The STS and DTS lost their wind over a decade ago and when Lexus started being more competitive, GM should've followed suit. Instead they just sat around collecting the $. Then the cheques stopped coming and everyone in Michigan looked around with no idea why. Your cars suck.
Mark my word, until they fix their portfolio, Caddy is destine to fail. Plus, I don't understand who they are chasing.
GM is trying to go after the near-luxury market with their pricing, claiming they are luxury but not having the product to back it up. In the age of the internet, this isn't going to fly. The XTS, and ATS, will need to blow the competition out of the water, like Hyundai did, for people to take notice. Just because it is better on one area, it won't make some rich dude who drives Benz's take a whiff. Especially with no halo car.
Then they have Buick which is a huge mess and cannibalizes caddy in the low end.
I'm done.
cadillac is far from dying....
The whole point of the XTS is to get older buyers away from the CTS and keep them from the ATS so Cadillac an become *cooler* and do battle with the germans,
The avalon is similar but in coolness is in a totally different class.
Wow, your pretty stupid.
