We're more than four months away from the next Geneva Motor Show in 2012, but Infiniti cannot contain its excitement about a new sports car concept that it is currently working on and which could give birth to a production model in the very near future.
The as-of-yet unnamed concept model is a range-extending electric sports car, and according to the company, it is being created to "to extend the potential for high performance, low emission electric cars."
The Japanese automaker published two teaser photos of the study as well as a video featuring Nissan vice president, Andy Palmer, who explains the strategy behind the concept car.
"At the Geneva show next year, we will present our vision for a totally new kind of inspired premium performance car," says Palmer. "Infiniti already has hybrid and clean diesel models on sale. And with an all-electric sedan on the way, the natural next step was to push the boundaries where performance and the environment intersect."
Palmer added that the concept will also hint at the next step in Infiniti's design language after the well-received Essence GT study.

The butt shot looks really good.
Butt looks like a tangled mess of metal to me.
I see Essence + Jaguar CX influence (rear), hopefully the final execution will leave us on the same high created when the Essence premiered with its cutting edge design. Infiniti dropped the ball by not bringing that vehicle to market - this could be redemption then hopefully onto an all new Q45 that's competitive with all of the top luxury-cruisers.
Infiniti has always lacked a halo super car and a proper flagship.
The Q series, while competitive, never cut through the cutter and found a niche. Onc might argue it deviated from the infiniti brand. It was NOT a 7-series or A8 fighter by any means but the entire brand was hinged on being the sporty japanese luxury brand (RWD, Great Power, Amazing Transmission, Good Handling). Then there is the bloated SUV......
Looks like the EV is going to hit two birds with one stone, I hope but they still need that fossil fuel supercar to be taken seriously. The only problem is that the GT-R is a monster, so what can Infiniti do, come out with some ridiculous twin turbo V8 (from their trucks), make the thing out of aluminum and carbon fiber and bascially sell it voer $250,000+....not going to happen. Infiniti has come a long way but that kind of sticker shock will kill someone.
I say get the flagship correct...make a true sporty large sedan. Jump the entire pack and create a panamera/CLS/A7 competitor but starting in the low 60's. Max out at 100K with an IPL version. Make some wicked content making it look like a fucking beast.
Bobs your uncle.
The car looks good to me but still I wonder how good it will be on the road. I like sports car they look good and they are good on the road as well. I am not sure about this one though the car looks good and I liked the white color. This color makes the car look elegant....
With this electric car concept, since there is no more gasoline to be used, what will you do if you will run out of car battery?
