The newest addition to Cadillac's sedan lineup, the 2013 XTS was fully revealed on Wednesday in advance of its first public appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show later in the day.
The XTS takes its place as Cadillac's largest model replacing both the DTS and the STS. And large it is at 202-in. (5,131mm) long, 72.9-in. (1,851mm) wide and 59.1-in. (1,501mm) tall.
The XTS rides on a hefty 111.7-in. (2,837mm) wheelbase with Cadillac laying claims to 40 inches (1,016 mm) of rear legroom, which is about four more inches than the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class and about two more inches than the Audi A6. It also gets a capacious boot with 18 cubic feet (509 liters) of space.
The new Cadillac's exterior styling is more adventurous than the DTS/STS models and almost identical to last year's XTS Platinum concept study.
The interior design is also a step towards the right direction while Cadillac has fitted the car with an array of electronic gizmos highlighted by the automaker's new CUE infotainment system that comes with an 8-inch screen in the center stack, and an available 12.3-inch reconfigurable cluster that offers four driver-selectable themes, ranging from minimal to extensive information.
There's more technology to be found under the skin as the XTS comes with GM's Magnetic Ride Control, rear air suspension, HiPer Strut front suspension and Brembo brakes fitted as standard. In addition, the big Caddy is also offered with an optional Haldex all-wheel-drive system with electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
The XTS is powered by GM's 3.6-liter V6 engine with direct-injection technology that produces 300-horsepower at 6,800rpm and 264 lb-ft (358Nm) of peak torque at a rather high 5,300rpm. The LFX V6 is linked to a Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission with tap-shift control.
Cadillac says that the front-wheel drive model returns an estimated fuel economy of 17mpg city and 28mpg highway, while the AWD version makes do with 17mpg and 27mpg respectively.
The 2013 Cadillac XTS will be manufactured in GM's plant in Ontario, Canada, with North American sales to start in spring 2012.

Thats low torque for a 300 HP V6.. and at high rpm? This doesn't sound good.
Geez! The stylist REALLY gave this car a 'bulldog' of a front-end. It's the car's worst styling feature . . .
Hight torque is hard to obtain without turbo. Infiniti has the same ratio Hp/torque with their 3.7 V6.
Wait...I don't understand. ATS small sporty sedan to do battle with the 3 series. So I figured CTS due battle with 5 series. Where the heck this thing come into due battle with???
Probably the most responsible Cadillac built to date. Albeit a V6, Cadillac gets high marks from me for not shoving a V8 under the hood. Gas mileage is along the first-generation CTS V6 models and could be better, but for a flagship model this impresses me. The XTS is virtually an oxymoron in its class. Weird, but kinda cool in its own way. Surprised with GM here and feel decisions had less to do with upper executive management than it did those who designed and built it. Hmmmm...
7 series
I don't think so... It does'nt look upscale enough. The S-class, 7 series, A8 are a really big player...
The front really looks like the Mercury Milan.
Lovely vehicle!
An Underpowered, bloated, FWD Flagship sedan lacking class leading advances but packed full of yesteryear technology (magnetic ride isn't even kinda new btw) I agree, this is an oxymoron within the segment. I don't think this even rivals a Hyundai Genesis other than being massive.
If you're going to jam a V6 in there, you turbo charge it so it is class competitive. This isn't. I would argue that GM should've put a V8 under the hood (with active cylinder management) to stand out from the pack and give someone who yearns for that grunt something to smile about. A nice throaty V8 with some nice tips could've made this a real standout. Heck, turbo it to get better fuel economy.
Unless this is an aluminum/carbon fiber mix, the weight/hp ratio is going to be the undoing. Oh and the torque numbers are a complete joke...264@5300...at least give me all the torque at 4,000! No one who is rich and can drop this kind of coin on luxury wants a G sedan to smoke it off the line. The XTS is supposed to compete with the 7-series and S classes. Yeah right!
This has underachiever written all over it...I pray to god the ATS is an actual class competitor to the 3-series and G sedan. If not, with the CTS moving up to the 5/E fighter, Caddy is basically done.
No good flagship
No halo car
No hal SUV (Caddy used to have this with the Escalade!!!)
No class leading luxury
No reason to buy
They are building it that way so big mouth pompous assholes like you won't buy them. Stick to pichup trucks.
I agree with you Bluetheimpala...its an exercise back to the 80's and 90's Caddy's with this car. I know GM and Cadillac can do good engineering but I am little disappointed with this car.
I love it. Sadly this car will probably cost $150000 - 200000 in the green sosialist country of Norway!
