China's Geely to Enter UK Market in 2012 with £10,000 Emgrand EC7

|

Only a week after Geely's Emgrand EC7 became the first Chinese vehicle to receive a respectable four out of five star safety rating under the Euro NCAP crash tests, and the owner of Volvo Cars announced that it is getting ready to enter the UK’s new car market with the first models to arrive at the end of 2012.

The Chinese automaker said that it has reached an agreement with the UK’s Manganese Bronze Holdings plc (MBH) to become their official distributor for the United Kingdom for the sale of new Geely cars, the supply of parts, to establish a dealer network and to provide an after-sales service.

Geely's first entry into the British market will be the Skoda Octavia-sized Emgrand EC7 in both four-door saloon and five-door hatchback body styles and a choice of 1.5- and 1.8-liter petrol engine options.

Geely said that all Emgrand EC7 models will be "well equipped" and carry a five year, 100,000 mile (160,000 kilometer) warranty with prices to start from around £10,000 (approx. US$15,700 or €11,600).

“We are starting with a clean sheet of paper with the distribution of Geely passenger cars into the UK, the first major Western European country to receive them," said Matthew Cheyne, Market Development Director of Geely Auto UK.

"We will be aiming to widen our range just as quickly as possible, probably at least a new model range every year for the next four to five years. At this stage we are not volume driven but we will increase our sales significantly as customers get to know our products and more models are added to the range. Our priority at launch is to have a representative network who wants to work with us to deliver real customer satisfaction," he added.

Personal experience tells me that what is actually delivered will have whatever goodness found in the prototype shown to the press and distributors missing in the actual product. Until these are randomly tested, I won't believe the published crash results.

Horrible - like putting all the blandest car designs of the 1990s into a blender. Will go down a storm with the older generation who'll love the value for money and 5 year warranty but will shed value faster than being pushed off a cliff and will have terrible driving dynamics. I'd be more interested by the 2020 Geely - look how fast Kia/Hyundai came in that time!

Even if they try to bring it here, nobody will buy that piece of junk for 15k U.S. dollar, which probably costs about 19k out the door, way over price for something that is worth about 6k brand new, and even at that low price, I would prefer to buy a used Acura, Honda or Toyota.

Ugly?
The ONLY reason why many here think that car is ugly is because it is a Chinese car.
A Chinese car is always ugly!!

Geely bought Volvo in March 2010. Volvo design head Peter Horbury 2 head Geely design this year. lots of good cost performance spec. like Tire Pressure Monitor System; multifunction steering wheel; Multimedia: AUX, USB (ipod) are available; Automatic anti-glare rearview mirror; CONSTANT VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT)... I think this price is acceptable. Don't forget, your ipod, iphone, ipad also made in China.

Looks better than a ford or chevrolet, and the price is fantastic for a 4-stars Ancap rating sedan.

The Asian giant Geely Motors surprises with the new Sport EC7 Emgrand a hachtback holder of a European style of spaciousness and low price.
No doubt the Emgrand EC7 is a car that integrates the latest advances in automotive technology and a complete electrical equipment, functional and safety. It also has the backing of Derco who is in charge of representing our country.
