General Motors will have Four World Premieres in Detroit Including the 2013 Cadillac ATS

|

With the press days over at the Tokyo Motor Show, automakers are now turning their focus on the next big automotive event, which is the 2012 North International Auto Show that takes place in Detroit from January 10 to 23.

Today, we learned that General Motors is planning four world premieres but for now, the company will only tell us about one of the vehicles it will bring to Detroit, the 2013 Cadillac ATS, which is aimed squarely at the entry-level premium sedan segment rivaling the likes of the new BMW 3-Series and the Lexus IS.

“ATS is a crucial part of Cadillac's expansion,” GM Senior Vice President of Global Product Development Mary Barra told the Automotive Press Association on Friday. “ATS enters the biggest market segment in the global luxury car industry, both in terms of volume and importance."

“It’s a segment dominated by German cars, including the BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4, so we’ve developed a compelling and convincing new challenger,” she added.

As for the other models GM will show in Detroit, the company said that they include both concept and production vehicles, but we're pretty sure that we'll learn more about them before the end of the month.

I will keep posting until Caddy gets its right....make good quality differentiated  product coupled with   honest emotive advertising and they have a winner.  I love the caddy brand and what it stands for; american in-your-face luxury. It used to be the size and the interior quality coupled with a honking big engine.  The market has changed but I don't know why caddy didn't carve out the V8 bad-ass-hell niche.  They could've cherry picked from Holden, slap in some corvette/racing tech and then just worry about the interior and infotainment.

Make a product that gets a recalled in the first 6 months, doesn't carve out any niche except 'me too', but still claims to be 'World class luxury' and watch this go the way of every other caddy launch.  Good reception that gets slapped in the face due to a lacking overall package that, when compared component by component to the germans fails in major ways, like interior quality, ride and handling.
Sure the sheetmetal was wicked, I'll be the first one to admit I like the current CTS more than the current 3-series but putting lipstick on a pig doesn't fool anyone.  What's next, the 2012 Cimarron?!!! Wiki it...
I'm done.

You sound pretty ignorrance, for one Cadillac has a V8 its called the CTS-V its been out since 2004....seriously?? The quality of the posters is low if your going to talk trash about the company at least know your stuff. Not to mention there was also the STSV, and XLRV so nothing new. Secondly you talk about the Cimarron yet Audi sells a car based on the golf that starts at $40,000 and to over $60,000 a golf??? yet Cadillac cant make a luxury version of a cehap car? You talk tBottom line ignorrance is clearly bliss you know nothing of cars and its pitiful that you even are allowed to post OBVIOUSLY wrong information....boom bye bye

Ignore Bluetheimpala, his mouth is much quicker than his brain. He has been polluting this blog on a regular basis.

This is a very important model for the Cadillac lineup that effectively aims at building a complete brand lineup. It already reminds me of the first-generation CTS that was crucial—if not the savior—of the Cadillac brand. The first-generation CTS never received the justice nor the refinement it was due; the current second-generation is really a Lutzmobile with it's glitzy bits. Through sophisticated understatement these models, and I trust the ATS, can start to place Cadillac where they need to be. The XTS is already a winner in my book albeit I have chagrin and hesitation regarding Cadillac ownership again having undergone what I have with Cadillac.

Well, I, for one, am still a Cadillac fanboy.  I even love the recent DTS.  True, it's a far cry from the '99, 85', even the '76.  The lack-luster performance, paired with unparalleled comfort on the stretch, seals the deal for me.  Bring back the boats of yore!  You can keep these 450hp bitch-sized vehicles.  6' tall and sitting in the back seat?  No thanks.
