SPY SHOTS: New Mercedes-Benz B25 AMG Caught Sneaking Out in the Open

|

Here's our first glimpse at Mercedes-Benz's hottest new B-Class model yet, which is being prepared by none other than the German firm's AMG division and is expected to enter production by 2013.

We're still not sure about the name, but it is believed that the most mightiest of all B-Class variants will be dubbed the B25 AMG.

While based on a different platform than the upcoming A25 AMG, spy shots of which we showed you back in August, the two models will share the same powertrain setup that includes a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine delivering somewhere around 300 ponies and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Rumor has it that the A25 AMG will feature all-wheel drive, but it remains to be seen if the latest B-Class' modular sandwich platform architecture can accommodate the same AWD system.

Along with the new turbocharged engine, the B25 AMG will pack upgraded suspension, steering and brake system components to improve handling, as well as a new aero kit with different front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a larger roof spoiler.

Oh, come on! There's no such thing as the modular sandwich platform. The new B-Class has skipped the sandwich architecture of the old model in favour of a conventional front-driven platform with a high degree of modularity (MFA). With the help of the specially developed ENERGY Space Concept, the MPV can accomodate an entire array of powering solutions, from IC up to hybrid and electric.

Maybe according to certain sites and blogs that did not read the technical specs, but not according to Mercedes-Benz and I quote from the official press release of the regular 2012 B-Class:

"The new B-Class features an enhanced variant of the
sandwich floor. The modular "Energy Space" concept means that it is
already designed to accommodate versions with an alternative drive:
appropriate interfaces in the body shell enable the main floor panel to
be modified and a step to be produced for the versions with alternative
drive. This multifunction well begins under the driver's seat and offers
space for the alternative energy accumulators."

looks like an ugly Volkswagen.   Going modular is a good idea,  I think that's where the future of automotive construction lies.    That dual clutch tranny makes it appeal to me,  will they be offering it in all will drive?
