There has been much excitement over the brand-new 2013 Dodge Dart as it's the first Chrysler product to be based upon a Fiat architecture – in fact so much that some couldn't just wait and unleashed a slew of pictures as well as the first video of the compact sedan on the road.
The Dart effectively replaces the Caliber in Dodge's lineup offering the Chrysler Group a direct rival to the Ford Focus and Chevrolet saloons.
It is based on a wider and longer version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta's platform and will offer American buyers an initial choice of three gasoline four-cylinder engines including a pair of natural aspirated units with a displacement of 2.0-liters and 2.4-liters rated at 160 and 184-horses respectively as well as a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine from the Abarth 500 with 160-ponies.
The front-wheel drive Dart will debut with a Fiat Group-sourced 6-speed dual-clutch transmission and a six-speed manual gearbox but in 2013, it will gain a new 9-speed transmission that is currently being developed by the ZF Group.
We'll have all the details from the Detroit Motor Show but for now, enjoy the first official pictures and video after the break.

Looks like a love child of a Hyundai Elantra and a VW Jetta.
That interior looks OK, but the seats make me think of 'unreliability'
Hyundai..Hyundai...Hyundai.
I would Dodge this Dart and get a Hyundai instead.
I think it looks good. Hyundai ??? Jetta ???
Good direction for Dodge. Nice looking & sporty car with great fuel economy, value priced & excellent warranty. It will give the competition a run for the money in this class & would also make for a good daily commuter.
Not bad, but has Neon-ish connotations to it.
looks very cool
As unreliable as a Jetta?.. Hyundai is just starting to make good cars, but people are still buying them for thier warranties. I thing Dodge has a great product here if they price it right.
I agree Trucks%Toys. What is with all the negativity? I think this car will do very well.
I like it..The side front seat storage is very cool. as far as exterior. It reminds me of a 2012 hyundai elantra and 1995 dodge neon blended togeather...I like the interior a lot too,. I say the hyundai elantra looks better though as far as exterior but I will say I think the dart wins with it's interior. a 9 speed auto imo should be able to give this car a better mpg then the hyundai elantra 29 city and 40 highway that only has a 6 speed. If it can do say 33 city and 44 highway I would have to give the win for my buck to dodge but if its the same then my buck go to hyundai because I lke the hyundai elantra exterior better, though still that darts interior is pretty wicked~!
none the less both cars are great IMO
Looks veeerrry european to me. Tweak it a bit and you'll get the new Fiat Grande Punto.
I smell some rebadging material right here.
Wow and I mean wow! This car looks awesome both inside and out. If the car has great dynamics then That would make the Fiat purchase worth it even more.
This car looks great! The combination of the other cars actually make the car look good! But something tells me when you get around the cheaper models its a done deal as far as the looks. If I were in the market I'd stick with R/T or Limited models.
And at 0:27 in the video, we can see a woman getting her ass felt up.
No, seriously, she's there.
More like the new Bravo.
1968 Dodge Dart is my favorite car of all time. I couldn't click this link fast enough... This made me very sad.
A quick check shows that this is some paid weasel for the Chrysler Corporation, that's what they do these days, pay people to go on the Internet and play up their products, many of the executives at Chrysler think this is a substitute for producing quality automobiles, only time will tell if these bought and paid for scumbags will prevail in the boardroom once again, and eventually crash the company all over again, now the Fiat owns Chrysler I tend to doubt it. They're all afraid for their jobs now, as people with no talent and no ability should be, there is no place for them in the car business of the future. Better take your bonuses while you can boys and buy yourself a wife quick.
You can see that he went all his buddies and told them that he commented here so they could like this self-serving BS comment, and he has a protected twitter account, a dead giveaway for someone trying to hide their Internet activities.
It's important to call these vermin out whenever you spot them, I can do that here, but at bogus online industry promoters like Autoblog they get to pretend like they're real human beings, unaffiliated and unbiased, I assure you they're not.
As long as they can get away with it, Chrysler will never produce a product comparable to Hyundai
or Kia, as long as they believe they can keep producing junk and con enough suckers into buying that junk with crap like this.
For the record, I like the Dodge, but now I'm turned off to it, because now I know that money that should be going into design production and quality control, is instead going into this worm's pocket.
WTF are you even talking about?!?? *yells* SECURITY! *gestures hand in your direction*
This is cool!
Get over it. Many manufacturers are now going with "world" platforms such as the new Fusion/Mondeo. If it means a better vehicle, I don't care where it's from or what it's called. Besides, it's beeen known for quite some time that this new compact would be based on a stretched Giulietta platform.
This is what the new 300 should have been like: modern shape (similar to Elantra and Focus) with retro cues blended in, instead of just a bunch of retro cues on a retro shape. I imagine the red stripes around the interior are for the SRT version only, and will be I'm guessing matte silver for the rest.
Make a version with a hatchback and they have something to sell in Europe, and a competitor to the Focus hatch here in the US. I can't wait to see what they come up with to replace the truly awful current Caravan/T&C which is blighting our neighborhoods and roadways.
Stop doubting this car guys it looks great. Much better than all the other rubbish in that class. Only thing they shoudve changed is the cross bar grille that makes the front look over crowded.
I see a little Neon in the rear 3 qtr post but also I see a very European styled car in it's sideview. In fact it could easily pass for an Alfa sedan(after redoing the front and rear styling). This car is as big as a Suzuki Kisashi. Let's hope it handles as well. It looks promising though. On looks alone (exterior and interior) it easily competes with Focus, Elantra, and Cruze. It certainly has them covered in the power department. In comparison to the Alfa Giulietta the base model suspension is probably tuned softer. However in RT guize it should be on par with the Giulietta in driving characteristics. It is my understanding that Fiat has done a lot of development on refining the 2.0 Mitsubishi engine. The Fiat based 1.4 Multiair turbo seems to have good torque and the 2.4 has multiair. The base 2.0 eguals the Focus in power and torque. The 1.4 and 2.4 would appear to offer better power then any of the competition.
Why didn't they just give us the Giulietta? Why not at least do a hatchback while they were at it? I had such high hopes for this Dart. Not impressed. Focus and a couple of Hyundai models look much more interesting.
Folks . . . wake up(!). This car is a Dodge in name only. Underneath, it's a FIAT/Alfa. Remember them?...cars that spent more time in repair shops - broken down - than on the road! Why would ANYONE consider the Dodge Dart over a Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Jetta, or Subaru? The Dart will build a reputation, just like the car it's built on, as a piece of junk(!)
Have you forgetten just a few years ago Hyundai cars were considered junk? Have you driven a Hyundai from a generation back? They feel like garbage. Now look at them. I have driven Fiats in Europe and they feel solid, nothing like the old Fiats in the States years back. If Hyundai can turn their image around in matter of a few years so can Fiat.
The rear is like Fart.
NEEDS THE DODGE TRADEMARK GRILL. THE TINY CHROME CROSS-HAIR DOESN'T CUT IT.
FIX THAT AND YOU GOT A DECENT CAR THERE.
So anyone who likes anything is a paid hack of the corporations? I like it. Where's my check?
Finally a real chic car........about time a car was designed to be pretty and not macho.
If you want macho get the new Fusion/Mondeo
Thumbs up for Chrysler... they now have a car aimed for the female (Dart), for the gangsta (300), for the rednecks (Ram), for the soccer mom (Town & Country), for the Miami rednecks ( Viper)
You never disapoint.........you keep my class in laughs..........more pontificating please......that's where your best humour lies.
Cannot quite see your point on Trucks& Toys............you sure are funny. Do you ever get out of the house.
It could be badged as a Fiat according to this http://www.inautonews.com/report-china-made-dodge-based-compacts-may-be-exported-to-europe-under-the-fiat-brand
I see the rat-buggeing corporate slaves who make $24,000 a year with no benefits and no retirement, come out of the woodwork when the boss starts screaming, hoping to keep their jobs for a few more months. If they are real lucky someone at corporate Internet monitoring will notice them sticking up for the company, and maybe they'll get picked for a $50 Christmas bonus this year. This is what it is to be a corporate owned slave in the new world order, a company man who has to keep in mind that he's being watched at all times, they've been brainwashed into being so thankful the scraps they get thrown, they'll do anything to protect it.
I hope i didn't offend you with my comment as much as Mr Brown.
Scumbag, Self-serving, Vermin, Weasel, Worm. Excellent points Mr Brown.

Splendid, magnificent product from newly-born Chrysler LLC, while her "predecessor" Dodge Caliber seems a "halfway between a truck and a passenger car"; not a sheer-car, I do assess!!
Above all, I do anticipate the 2013 Dodge Dart taking directly on the Ford Focus, the VW Jetta, and the Buick Verano.
