There's no end to the automotive leaks today with the latest victim of "someone, somewhere did it, but it wasn't me" being the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, photos of which "somehow" made it online several hours ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
We were the first to bring you the low down on Hyundai's 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline unit in the beginning of 2011, while the South Korean automaker officially revealed details on the engine last October.
We'll have to wait until tomorrow for the full details but in KDM form, the 1.6-liter unit that makes use of a twin-scroll turbocharger and a direct fuel injection system produces 204-horses at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 265Nm (195 lb-ft) at 1,750 rpm. Hyundai has said that the performance numbers will differ only slightly between markets (the U.S. version is rumored to be rated at 201HP and 196 lb-ft).
The Veloster Turbo will be available with both a six-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission powering the front wheels.
The photos reveal that the Turbo model receives some styling changes to differentiate it from the 138HP base version, including a full face front grille, a redesigned front bumper with new fog lamp surrounds and protruding wings on both corners, widened front fenders, side skirts and a new rear bumper with oval tailpipes.
Interior goodies include a pair of body-hugging front seats and bespoke trim.

The design is wrong. Although the fenders suggest huge wheel arches, the wheels themselves look tiny, especially in the rear. This is a common design problem of Hyundai, which ruins their appearance.
I really dont like where they are taking this fluidic sculpture design, It worked so beautifully on the Sonata, Elantra and Pre facelift Genesis Coupe.
This is dusgusting along with the new facelift genesis coupe, It looks like its wearing a gas mask :S
Somehow, this reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson's Ariel Atom test drive....
The seats do not appear to have been upgraded from the base model.
In that they were both cars driven by people?
The Atom outguns the Veloster in every way. I very much doubt the driver in the Veloster photo is enjoying themseves as much as Clarkson was.
Hyundai is going nuts. They need to get their design mess under control.
I like it!
Can't tell if serious. Do you not see the full leather and stitching?
The wheels are 18". Any larger and performance would suffer.
u're spot on jay.....catalin really has nothing good to say it's all
I agree with Catalin, and for the ones that did not agree , he said that the wheels look small not that they are small (it's a matter of correct reading). Also, in my opinion, this turbo version of the Veloster it's over designed, it's to busy as a shape, it doesn't have the flow of an Italian car, the presence of an German car not even the flamboyance of a French one for that matter. I think the direction that Hyundai was heading with their design is quit good but there is a big but in how this Veloster turne out. On the performance I can't comment apart from the fact that the numbers are looking very good.
Have a nice one !
@Blarg!, SgtBeavis was referring to Clarkson's gaping mouth in the Ariel Atom test drive.
That went right over your head..
seeing the Hyundai Veloster has already outsold its main competitors the Honda crz and scion tC, I would say a lot of car shoppers do not think it is ugly as I do not think it is ugky and this turbo model will only help to widen the gap between those other two slower selling competitors cars
Let me guess you could have done a better job.
