Ford Mustang Shows Audi R8, Ferrari California and BMW M3 who's the Boss at Hockenheim

|

While not uncommon, it’s not actually often that we hear about American sports cars beating European models on their home turf. Case in point, the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca that was featured in the latest issue of German car magazine Sport Auto.

Sport Auto editor Christian Gebhard took the track-orientated Mustang special over to the Hockenheim circuit for a fast lap recording a best time of 1:13.2, which puts it behind the likes of the BMW M5 F10 (1:12.9) but in front of the Audi R8 4.2 FSI (1:13.4), Aston Martin DBS (1:13.5) and Ferrari California (1:13.5).

The German publication also tested the Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca's braking performance with the muscle car coming to a complete stop from 100km/h (62mph) and 200km/h (124mph) in 33.3 meters (109.3 ft) and 124.6 meters (408.7 ft) respectively.

These numbers beat the new Porsche 911 Carrera S 991 fitted with the optional PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes). Pretty impressive stuff indeed.

Introduced last year, the Mustang Boss 302 is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 delivering 440 horsepower (443PS) and 380 lb-ft (515Nm) of torque, while the Laguna Seca is a more track orientated version adding more body stiffness, a stronger chassis and aerodynamic parts from Ford Racing's Boss 302R.

In the States, the regular Mustang Boss 302 has an MSRP of $41,105 (€31,800), while the Laguna Seca package increases the price to $48,100 (€37,200). The Audi R8 starts at $114,200 (€88,200).

I love how they put down that it beat the 4.2 V8 R8................. How old is that car now. :P

Maybe "Guest" misses the point. Here's a high performance, decent priced, US built muscle car that not only can go in a straight line, but can handle too. Plus, you can put a car seat in it and haul the family to get some groceries. To me, this is pure 1969/1970 when the Boss 302 and Z28 were sweet cars to own - no they wouldn't beat a 426 Hemi or a 427 Chevelle in a stop light grand prix, but they were nice in their own right. Boss 302 - yeah, I'd take one in a heartbeat.

Impressive number but:
Audi R8 is the V8 version, not the V10.
Ferrari California is a cruising-oriented sport car, not a true sport car.
For the Porsche, got nothing to say. Indeed, incredible.

Anyway, given the price of the Mustang, it is really impressive.

Huh?!?

.3 seconds behind an M5.  An M5 that will cost what in the State? $90,000?

Look, maybe at that point money doesn't mean anything to you, but it does to me. In my dreams, maybe I will buy a Boss 302 (minus Laguna.) But I won't be buying an M3 or an M5. You know what, I want to be happy for the Boss 302 as it is, and I appreciate all the other performance cars that are home on race tracks as well as the street.

Still a Mustang. Still crap.

Mustang could have been faster around the track as the driver didn't exhibit the best driving technique in the video.  To much of a 'drift' mentality pervading the recent examples of track work.  That said, with that driver all the cars could have been faster.

Still, the Mustang isn't a 'finesse' machine, you have to muscle it around the track.

"car seat"  "Groceries"  Not likely.

The king of the "stop light grand prix"  wasn't a 'Hemi', it was a 440" and 'Stage' Buicks

Not on Long Island. It was a 427 Camaro from Baldwin Motion.

Starting at $60,000. Go get it.

Oh, First on Race Day? F.cked Over Retarded Dodge?

I focus on performance and reliability. I don't care about a badge or name plate. But then again, I work for a living and value my money (and automobiles.)

Yes!  They were Bad Ass, but not OEM.

A buddy of mine bought a new 69' SS Camaro with the 375 Hp engine and 4-speed, I told him that the 66' Corvette came with a 396"_425 Hp engine, so we took it down to the dealership and had them build it to those specs.  Couldn't put the power to the ground, I suspect the Baldwin Camaro suffered a similar situation unless set-up for quarter mile work.   Those cars had scary top ends, but were nearly uncontrollable off the line.  Speaking of scary, the cars were available with drum brakes, all around.
