Jaguar XF gets New 163PS Version of 2.2-liter Turbo Diesel

|

Jaguar is doubling the XF's four-cylinder diesel offerings with the presentation of a new base version of its 2.2-liter unit that produces 163PS (161bhp) and supplements the 190PS (187bhp) variant already on sale in Europe.

The new lower output diesel accelerates the XF from zero to 62mph (100km/h) in 9.8 seconds en route to a top speed of 130mph (210km/h), while returning a combined fuel economy of 52.3mpg UK (43.5mpg US or 5.4lt/100km) and emitting 149 g/km of CO2.

In comparison, the 190PS model returns the same fuel economy and CO2 figures but it goes from standstill to 62mph in in 8.5 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 140 mph (225 km/h).

The new entry-level 163PS XF 2.2-liter Diesel is priced at £29,950 OTR in the UK with standard features including suedecloth and leather seats, a touch screen centrally mounted display, electronic climate control, an 8-speed automatic transmission and Stop-Start.

Jaguar said dealers are taking orders for the new base model now ahead of the first deliveries in March.

What a great car.

Pointless product for the consumer, due to being only £1k less than the 187bhp version (which itself is taxed at the same low level, as its Co2 output is the same).

Obviously this is more of an attempt to massage the product availability figures to show Jag are complying with EU targets for manufactures, by offering 'more' low Co2 engines in vehicles.

It would only have to be £28,950 to genuinely undercut the E-Class, 5-Series and A6, and Jag would have an unquestionably great product offering.

Great looking car, but I'd hate to drop $46,000 on a car that takes ten seconds to reach 60.

I guess the price is not the point here, more the power/CO² figure for corporate fleets.
Some countries apply heafty taxes if a company get too powerful/polluting cars...

I'm pretty sure that is the reason.
@af83f39201b17bc35e85dc2dfd9340be 46kUSD is really cheap (that includes taxes), at least on this side on the old continent. Example a Camaro costs 50kUSD here in Europe, while the car quality has nothing similar (beside a lower engine score).

Agreed - apples and oranges with different purposes. Anyone could walk into a dealership here and buy an SS for $32,000, a lot closer to its actual worth.

Is a car that takes an extra few seconds to get to 60 mph take that much longer to drive from say Boston to Miami. Actually it would take longer because of the extra fueling stops.

What is an SS?

Camaro SS - Super Sport. Just used as an example in reply to Sebastien.
