Poll: Which Chevrolet Concept Coupe Would You Like to be Built?

The 2012 Detroit Motor Show is more or less consigned to the dustbin of history, but that doesn't mean we'll stop talking about the vehicles that made their world premiere at the Cobo Center and especially the concept models.

Truth to be said, high-end sports cars such as the Acura NSX and Lexus LF-LC studies are the ones we'd really like to drive in the not so distant future, but for most of us, it's models like the two Chevrolet coupe concepts that correspond to mainstream reality.

While very different in philosophy, Chevrolet's Code 130R and Tru 140S Concepts share several attributes: both models were designed as four-seater coupes for the young at age (or young at heart); both are based on existing platform architectures and use production hardware, and finally, if they were to be built, their price would be in the low $20,000s.

General Motors says that it designed the two concepts to open a discussion with potential buyers and gauge interest on the possible development of a production model in the future.

Which brings to today's poll: If GM were to give the green light, which one would you want to see in Chevrolet's showrooms?

Your first option is the more classic Code 130R, which as we pointed out the first time we saw it, reminds us in many ways of the BMW 1-Series Coupe. It rides on rear-wheel drive architecture – most likely a shortened version of the Cadillac ATS platform.

Your second option is the Tru 140S, which brings to mind the Mitsubishi Eclipse for more reasons than one. It is built on the front-wheel drive chassis of the Cruze.

Both concepts are designed to be able to be equipped with a 1.4-liter Ecotec turbo engine with eAssist micro-hybrid technology that returns 150HP and up to 40mpg (5.9 lt/100km). We reckon that if any of the two were to be built, GM's new 2.0-liter Ecotec Turbo with 270-horses or more would surely be offered down the line.

So there you have it. Scroll down for a closer look at the pictures and videos and then cast your vote.

TRU 140S with RWD, gotta love the Lambo inspired lines.

8LiterHemiV8 said... »January 21, 2012

It's FWD. . .

Democritus said... »January 21, 2012

Yes, the TRU 140S with RWD would be ideal.  The fascia of the 130R looks like it could belong to the next generation Sonic.

Cable said... »January 21, 2012

I know, but I said what I want it to be, maybe someone from Chevrolet is reading this.

SgtBeavis said... »January 21, 2012

I vote the 130R.  I like the upright stance and RWD.  However the styling does need some tweaking.

Dear Chevy,
Please lose that damn grill.

Frederick A said... »January 21, 2012

Lose the grille, and then Chevy's just another Ford, a brand with no consistent and distinctive image.

AstonMartin said... »January 21, 2012

Chevrolet 130R Concept available in RWD and AWD priced under $20K well equipped - this is my first choice.  I do however see a market for the 140S as the Eclipse will cease being made + this could battle the Scion FRS as the Chevy's lines are bolder - again price it too well equipped under $20K.

Ethan Bailey said... »January 21, 2012

140s but with rwd instead... they should replace the cobolt for that

scoop said... »January 21, 2012

PLease make the 130R.  Don't change the name, but offer and AWD.  Please?

Joe said... »January 21, 2012

Here's the hting... Option 1 the Code 130R is an ugly copy of the already marginal 1-Series BMW. Add to that teh legendary build quality of Chevrolet, and you have, uhh... something. And on what planet does the Tru 140S remind anyone of a mid-engined exotic? Accord coupe/Mitsubishi Eclipse? A LOT closer... then there's that ol GM build thing. I'm just sayin...

NM said... »January 21, 2012

One looks like the current generation Eclipse and the other looks like the current generation RX-8. Really no breakthrough in design. Out of the two I would say the Eclipse looking one.

SwingtimeInTheRockies said... »January 22, 2012

Redesign the Core 130R so it doesn't look like a 1963 Rambler American (Kids: Google it) and build it.

SwingtimeInTheRockies said... »January 22, 2012

Not been looking at new car prices in a while, eh?  AWD and under $20K?  Probably won't happen :)  Besides, AWD misses the point of a pure driving experience.

Mike said... »January 22, 2012

Ha ha ha . . . the Rambler American(!)  Now THAT'S funny (and you're absolutely right!)

Vini S said... »January 22, 2012

Neither, unless they use the 140S body design , shrink it onto the 130R RWD platform. The 130R body looks like a cross between a subaru/135i (not the best combination). Fitting a 140S with FWD (Cruze platform), although makes it more "economical" , ruins its appeal.

A pissed off US citizen  said... »January 22, 2012

Leave it to Government Motors to bring two "concepts" that are already dated, one being hopeless 86/BRZ /FRS fodder (the one that looks like a cheap 1 Series knockoff), and the other being a damn grave robber  (the forth gen Eclipse wannabe).

My vote is for neither. GM should stick to building 3rd rate passenger cars/light trucks and begging the President to steal the citizens' money.

Joseph Baumann said... »January 22, 2012

pretty sure the cobalt was replaced a couple years ago by the cruze....

Mike said... »January 22, 2012

And GM thinks either of these dated, poorly designed vehicles would compete with the new Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ?  Is GM serious?

Jedinitelude said... »January 22, 2012

By the time the production model roles out it would look nothing like the concept you see now. True to form Chevy will ruin the concept lines with massive side mirrors, huge halogen lights, and different front bumper to meet safety standards and car rental standards.

Nailocr said... »January 22, 2012

I would like to see both on the street with RWD.  The 130 would sell to a mainstream audience and the 140 could be more of a limited production vehicle.  FWD would be okay if GM could get up to the performance levels of a Mazdaspeed 3 and get close to the quality levels of Euro imports.  If not, they shouldn't waste their time.  Just like the Solstice and Sky, these have potential, but something was lost in the translation.  Do it right, or don't do it.

Jkrcburket said... »January 22, 2012

Once either goes into production, they will look nothing like this and will most likely appear as thought they were built for members of the secretarial pool. They will be dull and uninspired with 16 inch rubber. And to top it off . . . they will be Chevys. They always turn these things into girl cars.

140s said... »January 22, 2012

Let me put it this way: I want them to build the TRU 140s BUT with RWD instead!!! It would be a crime if they decide to do this masterpiece with FWD!

Hugh Jorgan said... »January 22, 2012

Another brain dead Republican who hates his own country. Only a moron would be unhappy that the country saved  one of it's largest companies and in a very short time it has regained sales leadership.
Your comment confirms that the right would try to  re-destroy the country to regain power.

non of them they are already boring

AstonMartin said... »January 22, 2012

An AWD drive OPTION would be appreciated  - especially by people that live in the Midwest.  I am acutely aware how much vehicles cost to produce & sell. No one that drives an Audi believes your statement that "AWD misses the point of a pure driving experience".  For that matter BMW offers X-Drive and MB offers 4Matic. GM has the technology to simply offer a lite weight awd system as an added cost option, thats my point.  I stand by a well equipped 130R for under $20K considering this would be slotted well under a base Camaro.

Andrew M said... »January 22, 2012

Who in the right mind would want another FWD sporty car.  Look around the world has enough of them, way more then we need.  Want one go choose one of the 20 or 30 choices there are already.  All of those out there waiting for more reasonably priced RWD options band together, get your friends to vote.  Hopefully GM does not take these polls as seriously and just builds an affordable fun RWD coupe.

Мохамед Ибрагимов said... »January 22, 2012

the RWD one as the 140 is FWD so scrap it

Toronado_II said... »January 22, 2012

A new Z24 ? Tru 140S but with a RWD. Could we have the 2.0 L with a AWD in option ?
;o)

Ethan Bailey said... »January 23, 2012

oh is that what that was?? well i was talking about the coupe version.. i dont think the cruze comes in a coupe does it?

Ernwopr said... »January 23, 2012

This red "little Camaro" , BMW1 coupoe wannabe ... looks quite good ...
but it  needs more power , and RWD ,

although Cobalt SS was FWD , , and was fast ass hell...
so if the will make it FWD it will be a rival for Scion TC and Mitsu Eclipse..

Anonymous said... »January 23, 2012

Joe, what build qualit ru talking about, I just retired a Chevy with 240,000 miles... All I buy Now is GM because I know it will last; might want to check your facts and stop believing the media hype and lies you have been told...

Anonymous said... »January 23, 2012

You are a total idiot, just thought you should know; you are clearly misinformed about the quality of American cars... Go jack of in your Toyota...

Anonymous said... »January 23, 2012

Thank you; Republicans are the most unpatriotic idiot whit trash fools, I am tired of there government motors rhetoric. It's time to run these Toyota lovin fools out of this country; ask the Japanese how much they subsidize there automotive industry, on top of all the Americans that support the dumping of foreign made products on our shores...

Justin Gentile said... »January 26, 2012

I'm not particularly fond of either, but when push comes to shove I would pick the Tru. The Code's cabin has an antiquated shape which reminds me of Chinese cars and only at certain glimpses does it remind of the Camaro. It's also ill-proportionately small when compared to its blunt, maw-like front fascia which would look more at home on a pickup truck.

shwazoo said... »January 29, 2012

honestly both should be made, kids influence their parents to buy certain cars and both of these appeal to the younger age group. the code 130 is perfect for the people that do not want to spend the money on a camaro but still get a pseudo pony car that looks damn sharp. the 140 is a beautiful refresher to the hatchback community. alot of hatchbacks recently look HORRIBLE (veloster, focus 5 door, etc) so both of these need to be made. im tired of seeing slow tin boxes on the road i.e. most asian car companies

likeasir said... »January 29, 2012

oh so scion is making hyundai velosters now? and subaru is making an older garbage version of the s 2000?? wow i cant wait to see these cars in flames on the side of the road. il make sure to take a picture and post it here for ya

Wellnow said... »January 29, 2012
