So, How Much Does a Nissan 370Z Coupe Cost Where You Live?

|

During a trip abroad or while surfing on the internet, at one point or the other you probably compared prices of goods offered in your own country with those in other regions. And naturally, you may have noticed that prices can vary greatly from one country to the other.

Being that for most of people, a car is the second most expensive purchase you will ever make after you house; it's interesting to see the price differences between various countries around the world.

To make a fair comparison, we had to pick a model that was available in only one engine option globally. For those of you that have been with us for a while, you may remember that we made a price comparison with the Nissan 350Z back in late 2007.

Some four years later, we decided to revisit the subject with the 350Z's successor, the 370Z Coupe, in its base version and not taking into consideration the possible equipment variations in each market. The exchange rates are from January 16.

The price chart that follows makes for an interesting read as let’s just say that, in the least expensive market, you could buy six (!) 370Zs for the price of one in the most expensive country.

On a side note, if you don't see your country listed below and you happen to be aware of the base price of the 370Z Coupe in your region, feel free to add it in our comments section.

It's super expensive in Australia, as your list shows, but in fairness, it's available in only one very highly-equipped spec, offering standard items that are normally/often optional extras in other markets.

Christ this is ridiculous, I mean if this is correct then somebody could make a killing buying cars in the US and smuggling them overseas for resale.  Just the fact that a Japanese car cost $17,000 more to buy in Japan than it does in America, is just so absurd.

I think it is time for you whiny Americans to shut up about prices. Look how much it is and every car is in Australia. Feel sorry for Singapore too but they don't even have enough land to drive cars properly...

I live in Singapore. A can of coke costs an average of US$1 from the vending machine.

The high cost of car ownership in Singapore is due to the limited Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which you need to bid from the government. The COE entitles you to own 1 car for a maximum of 10 years. On top of the price of the 370Z, the COE for cars above 1600cc costs around US$50,000.

Bulgaria - 44500 euro - base price with AT transmission. 42500 base price with manual.
Extras are quite expensive as well.

Oddly enough, Most of the base model 370Z cars are built quite differently.
Per example, the US base is equipeed with very little, Cloth seats, and a stereo from the Nissan Versa.
In Canada the base car is equipped with the Leather/suede seats, Heated seats, Power seats, along side the upgraded stereo etc,... none of which are offered in the US model till you get to the next package.
Also there are export/import costs.
I have to pay an additional 6.5% per car that is japanese built, that I bring into Canada.
SO, when you compare the equivilant models, the US Touring 370Z and the BASE Canadian Z,
it is $36,610 Vs $40,007 Then you add the 6.5% import DUTY to the US model it is now 38,989.65 + time and expenses. Not really worth it. If you think you are smart, Try importing a car into Paraguay.
The cost to get the car INTO the country can range from $12,000 - 120,000 depending on who is working at the border that day, Not to mention the unknown costs to register the car in that country.
I tried to send a 2007 Nissan 350Z Roadster to Paraguay last year. Total costs including shipping and export/import fees $26,000..... PLUS the used 350Z...... Another $32,000.

It's quite unusual that Japan is NOT the cheapest country to buy the Z car. This means that Japanese consumers are paying on behalf of Nissan so that foreign consumers can buy the Z car with a much cheaper price.

In Greece taxes as a percentage of the initial price are higher for expensive cars. That means that expensive cars are much more expensive in Greece than in Germany for example but cheap cars are more or less the same as in Germany.
Try the same comparison for a small cheap car as a Fiat 500 for example.

Interesting though these figures are, they're not very meaningful, because they're not directly comparable. US price, for example, doesn't include tax, whereas UK one (and many others, I guess) does. Of course, prices are going to vary a lot around the world, but these figures don't tell us much about why: is Nissan profiteering in some markets, or are consumer prices just higher in some countries than in others.

In Holland, even more expensive then Australia, it's very expensive because of the taxes (no not Texas).
Here we pay about double of what the car is worth.
We even pay taxes upon taxes....and when we drive...we pay taxes to be aloud wto drive (to make use of the roads) and we pay 2 taxes on the gasoline (which is about 1 euro and 75 cents a liter!).
In conclusion...driving a car in our country is superexpensive.

Michael said... »January 18, 2012

No, most of the price difference is probably because of taxes and fees. Analysis of that factor would have been useful in this article, which offers no reasons for the price differences.

A brand new 370z cost RM385,000.00 which was a little more than USD120,000.00

However a recondition 1 year old 370z from Japan would cost RM100,000.00 less than a new unit.

Dan Tole said... »January 18, 2012

Like everyone else said, these price differences are mostly in import/export and transportation fees. Some countries are just so out of whack and then add to that the corruption at the borders and the cost just keeps rising.

Luc said... »January 18, 2012

Agree, if you want to compare base price without taxes they could have added an extra column.

Looking from consumer perspective the most expensive states have about 10% sales tax. That still makes US very cheap. But I also think the Euro is still little bit overpriced even at current price.

a couple of points...

most cars in the EU are taxed based on the engine capacity.  a 3.7L engined car is going to be taxed exponentially more than a 1.3L one.

the regulations in most countries, whilst similar, are not the same.  there are extra costs involved in making a car that is legal in the US legal in the EU, or Australia, or wherever...
