During a trip abroad or while surfing on the internet, at one point or the other you probably compared prices of goods offered in your own country with those in other regions. And naturally, you may have noticed that prices can vary greatly from one country to the other.
Being that for most of people, a car is the second most expensive purchase you will ever make after you house; it's interesting to see the price differences between various countries around the world.
To make a fair comparison, we had to pick a model that was available in only one engine option globally. For those of you that have been with us for a while, you may remember that we made a price comparison with the Nissan 350Z back in late 2007.
Some four years later, we decided to revisit the subject with the 350Z's successor, the 370Z Coupe, in its base version and not taking into consideration the possible equipment variations in each market. The exchange rates are from January 16.
The price chart that follows makes for an interesting read as let’s just say that, in the least expensive market, you could buy six (!) 370Zs for the price of one in the most expensive country.
On a side note, if you don't see your country listed below and you happen to be aware of the base price of the 370Z Coupe in your region, feel free to add it in our comments section.

It's super expensive in Australia, as your list shows, but in fairness, it's available in only one very highly-equipped spec, offering standard items that are normally/often optional extras in other markets.
Here in Portugal : 74032 euros. One of the poorest european countries and the most expensive to buy a new car, SO many taxes it's ridiculous it really makes me angry
It's almost $200,000 in Indonesia. Distressing.
India Rs6000000.00 US$113000.00
Approximate include local road tax and charges.
in israel its cost 91383$ Or 350,000 NIS
In Colombia: us$82,635 (COP$152.000.000)
I wonder how much a can of coke is in Singapore................
In Chile : $ 48270 ( CLP 23990000 in local currency).
MYR370,000.00
Christ this is ridiculous, I mean if this is correct then somebody could make a killing buying cars in the US and smuggling them overseas for resale. Just the fact that a Japanese car cost $17,000 more to buy in Japan than it does in America, is just so absurd.
I think it is time for you whiny Americans to shut up about prices. Look how much it is and every car is in Australia. Feel sorry for Singapore too but they don't even have enough land to drive cars properly...
US$60,585 (NZ$75,700) in New Zealand
I live in Singapore. A can of coke costs an average of US$1 from the vending machine.
The high cost of car ownership in Singapore is due to the limited Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which you need to bid from the government. The COE entitles you to own 1 car for a maximum of 10 years. On top of the price of the 370Z, the COE for cars above 1600cc costs around US$50,000.
Bulgaria - 44500 euro - base price with AT transmission. 42500 base price with manual.
Extras are quite expensive as well.
Oddly enough, Most of the base model 370Z cars are built quite differently.
Per example, the US base is equipeed with very little, Cloth seats, and a stereo from the Nissan Versa.
In Canada the base car is equipped with the Leather/suede seats, Heated seats, Power seats, along side the upgraded stereo etc,... none of which are offered in the US model till you get to the next package.
Also there are export/import costs.
I have to pay an additional 6.5% per car that is japanese built, that I bring into Canada.
SO, when you compare the equivilant models, the US Touring 370Z and the BASE Canadian Z,
it is $36,610 Vs $40,007 Then you add the 6.5% import DUTY to the US model it is now 38,989.65 + time and expenses. Not really worth it. If you think you are smart, Try importing a car into Paraguay.
The cost to get the car INTO the country can range from $12,000 - 120,000 depending on who is working at the border that day, Not to mention the unknown costs to register the car in that country.
I tried to send a 2007 Nissan 350Z Roadster to Paraguay last year. Total costs including shipping and export/import fees $26,000..... PLUS the used 350Z...... Another $32,000.
It's quite unusual that Japan is NOT the cheapest country to buy the Z car. This means that Japanese consumers are paying on behalf of Nissan so that foreign consumers can buy the Z car with a much cheaper price.
It costs 190,000 AED here in Dubai. That equates to around $51,700.
US$80,780(NT2,420,000) in Taiwan
Aaron, you need to brush up on the realities of global tariffs etc.
In Greece taxes as a percentage of the initial price are higher for expensive cars. That means that expensive cars are much more expensive in Greece than in Germany for example but cheap cars are more or less the same as in Germany.
Try the same comparison for a small cheap car as a Fiat 500 for example.
DN
Interesting though these figures are, they're not very meaningful, because they're not directly comparable. US price, for example, doesn't include tax, whereas UK one (and many others, I guess) does. Of course, prices are going to vary a lot around the world, but these figures don't tell us much about why: is Nissan profiteering in some markets, or are consumer prices just higher in some countries than in others.
That would be around USD 119 k . Most of the $$$ goes to a select group of cronies....
$ 60,120 in Croatia
in israel it's 100,000$... like the corvette zr1 in it's own home!!
in israel it's 100,000$.. look at it's price in auto's site..
im malaysian and i visit singapore a lot of times and i could tell you that i see absolutely no reason why you should own a car there, its Impossible to get lost and the public transports are everywhere, its unbelievably convenient..
the only reason you need a car in Singapore is to get stuck in the traffic...oh i did a research and in MYR it costs 115,649 USD so i guess malaysia is not much different..
From € 73.600 in Portugal. :(
From $97 106,46 in Portugal (€75.900)
€73,600 to €86,000 in Portugal
370z is $135,000 US (4.3 million thb) in Thailand ... even cars made here in Thailand (with low cost labour are expensive. A locally made BMW 318 diesel will cost over $90,000 US. It's ridiculous. I just bought a Merc CLS 250 CDi (the cheapest CLS available) for $142,000 US ... Ouch!
In Portugal: € 75 900 (includes taxes)
CROATIA - 390500 croatian kuna, that is 51742 euros or 66186 us dollars
That is for 3.7 v6 328ps manual 6 speed basic model
same engine with automatic transmision is - 410500 croatian kuna, that is 54452 euros or 69576 us dollars
Poland is almost in the middle... It's truth, new cars are very expensive.
But used cars are one of the cheapest in Europe :)
In Switzerland the car is 58'085 $ US local money 54'790 Chf
In Finland prices start at 64,641€
Thailand also 100,000+ EURO T0T
In Holland, even more expensive then Australia, it's very expensive because of the taxes (no not Texas).
Here we pay about double of what the car is worth.
We even pay taxes upon taxes....and when we drive...we pay taxes to be aloud wto drive (to make use of the roads) and we pay 2 taxes on the gasoline (which is about 1 euro and 75 cents a liter!).
In conclusion...driving a car in our country is superexpensive.
No, most of the price difference is probably because of taxes and fees. Analysis of that factor would have been useful in this article, which offers no reasons for the price differences.
In Portugal the base 370Z is €75,900 or $96,201.
Even beats Greece as a goods over-taxing EU nation.
almost $167,193 (5.3M in Thai Baht)
A brand new 370z cost RM385,000.00 which was a little more than USD120,000.00
However a recondition 1 year old 370z from Japan would cost RM100,000.00 less than a new unit.
Like everyone else said, these price differences are mostly in import/export and transportation fees. Some countries are just so out of whack and then add to that the corruption at the borders and the cost just keeps rising.
Agree, if you want to compare base price without taxes they could have added an extra column.
Looking from consumer perspective the most expensive states have about 10% sales tax. That still makes US very cheap. But I also think the Euro is still little bit overpriced even at current price.
And I cry myself to sleep at night thinking about your Australian car prices. It's right behind world hunger and people that kick puppies.
Iceland: 12.000.000 kr. About $95.000. Taxes & tolls 70% of price.
Ps. iceland gas price 230kr pr. liter.... $8.50 pr gallon!!!!
How about a
GT-R list ?
oh ireland .. making me proud ...
my father recently bought a mustang gt for 22,000 euro
it cost 100,000 euro brand new .. which is ridiculous
Greece can't afford anymore new cars, so no need to compare price.
In California, special sale, out the door, $31,455 with upgrade package.
Did not believe you. LOOOOOOK!!!!!
http://www.nissansunnyvale.com/new-inventory/index.htm?invtype=new&reset=InventoryListing&SByear=2011&SBbodystyle=Coupe&SBprice=30000+-+33000
Yes, used cars are cheap in Poland because they steel them from us (germans). ;)
Franciso, isn't it that California went almost bust? Interesting how u can afford new cars compared to, let's say Greece...
$162400 here in Norway...
maybe next summer you'll find your kidney in bulgaria.
a couple of points...
most cars in the EU are taxed based on the engine capacity. a 3.7L engined car is going to be taxed exponentially more than a 1.3L one.
the regulations in most countries, whilst similar, are not the same. there are extra costs involved in making a car that is legal in the US legal in the EU, or Australia, or wherever...
its 120,000 USD in Vietnam for the fully loaded model, the used one should be around 90,000 to 100,000 USD , beside that our country GDP is only 1200 USD , so sad.
$32,000 for a 2007 350Z? That is twice the book on a outstanding NISMO in the states.
In Thailand around the same as Singapore!!! only for the rich the middle and the poor have no chance unlike in the US. fairness?
Taxes man. Don´t say stupid things.
Poland is at 9 position. Isn`t bad;) But in Singapore this car really is expensive, I didn`t want to live here ;)
The Nissan 370Z is sold for TT$340,000 which is US$52,713 in Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies.
Man, I need to be a car importer
Perhaps one of the reasons why cars are so cheap in America is because wages for working people have been stagnant for 30 years.
In Denmark it's 135.000, for the cheapest model and 148.000, for the most expensive...
CROATIA: 51.380,00 EUR (~$65.250,00)
Reg; "Wages" Worst then 'Stagnant' Aaron, and in decline for about 40 years now.
Somebody has to pay for the wars, corporate welfare, and fuel the wealth of CEO's/CFO's, etc. Inflation and Stagnant too Declining Wages started with the Vietnam war. Not much has changed, the slide continues nearly unabated.
Comparing the local price in USD to the GDP per Capita in USD can give a better idea of affordability in each country....

Imagine how much a GT-R cost in those countries.
At least its for sale in TT, we can't even get it here in St. Lucia not without importing it. Customs duties on an engine that big is about 115% of the CIF price (cost price+insurance+freight) and other random levies. I estimate about $90K USD total price
GTR prices are even stupider...and yes local taxes very allot...but usualy in the USA cars are much much cheaper
I LIve in romania...and japanese cars are a little bit more expensive than in the USA ...but the german cars are stupidly expensive and everybody buys hundrets of thousends of them althow they aren't as good as the jap cars.....a piece of s**t BMW 320i coupe with no optionals on it cost as much as a full option 370Z....and you see a lot of 320 on our roads
Prices of cars in singapore is simply disgusting
hell for a car lover
from 51 430€ to 80 000€
as a singaporean here. fml.
It goes to show that Singaporeans are rich enough to own cars despite their high prices, look at the amount of supercars on the roads and even the everyday bread n butter car is either a BMW or Mercedes or Audi.
Even thought the public transport system is good, nothing beats the convenience of owning a car.
GTR SGD 330K - 390K.
USD263.6k-
311.5k
its the basic for singapore
In Ecuador u$d. 75.000 dollars.
