The marketing buffs over at Volkswagen have gone to work to promote the newly launched in the U.S. Golf R with the release of a dedicated iPad application called the “Golf R Drivers Forever”.
The app covers the history of both the regular Golf and Golf R models in the States and includes a variety of photos and videos, a brochure with tech specs, a 360-degree view of the car and even an interview with designer Chip Foose on the VW brand and the Golf.
“The Golf R app was created to celebrate and thank the Volkswagen brand’s community of enthusiasts because they represent what makes the Golf R special,” said Jon Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America.
The “Golf R Drivers Forever” iPad app launched in the iTunes App Store today (January 17, 2012) and is free to download here: Golf R iPad app.
The North American specification of the Golf R comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 256 horsepower and 243 lb-ft torque, matched to VW's 4Motion all-wheel drive system and a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox.
The Golf R is available in both three- and five-door body styles with prices starting from $33,900 (no including handling and destination fees).

I'm a real fan of this car. But I think this app is crap. The apps on my ipad have some usefulness - not eye candy. How about an app that'll let me interface with my R's maintenance history right from my VW dealer? Or show some useful info from my car's ECU?
VW..........this is lame............
What's the point ? Who cares about an app, give this "R" more useful gears: HUD, Adaptative Cruise Control...
Forget the App, bring back the 83-84 GTI.
