Have US$76,895 to spare? For that coin, you can get in the brand new 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe, which is the initial model of the Bavarian firm's sports saloon that arrives in the U.S. showrooms early this summer.
The 640i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six gasoline engine delivering 315hp at 5,800 to 6,000 rpm and 330 lb-ft of peak torque on stream between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm. Power channeled to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
BMW says the 4+1 seater model is capable of delivering a 0 to 62 mph (0-100km/h) sprint time of 5.4 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). EPA fuel economy ratings have not yet been announced, but in the EU cycle, the 640i Gran Coupe is rated at 7.8 lt/100km (30.1 mpg).
Later in the summer, BMW will enhance the range with 445-horsepower 650i Gran Coupe in both RWD and xDrive (AWD) flavors with pricing to be announced at a later date.
Back to the 640i Gran Coupe, with a starting price of US$76,895 (including $895 Destination and Handling Charge), BMW demands a $3,295 premium over the 640i Coupe ($76,300).
More importantly, the 640i Grand Coupe costs $16,000+ more than the base version of the Audi A7 Sportback ($60,125 including DH fee) that's powered by a 310hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6, and $10,440 more than the range-topping "Prestige" trim level with the same engine.
The BMW model is even more expensive than the new Mercedes CLS550, which comes with a 4.6-liter turbocharged V8 producing 402 horses and a starting price of $72,175 (including a $875 destination and handling fee).
It is however priced very close to the base Porsche Panamera saloon, which is powered by a 300hp 3.6-liter V6 and costs $75,200.
We should note than in these types of vehicles, one should also take into consideration the standard features when comparing prices.

GARBAGE!!!! all three are pure rolling pieces of EXPENSIVE trash. a 2012 chrysler 300 srt-8 fully loaded offers the same performance, technology and swag for 25 to 30,000 LESS, and its a ICON. a loaded v-6 300s is even cheaper and the Chrysler looks like a Chrysler, not a hyundai/kia hybrid.
Comparing them to a Chrysler 300 LOL
I find the pricing a little hard to justify except if you consider how the 6 Series Gran Coupe is spun off the 6 Series, a proper GT car whereas the rest are spun off luxury saloons and the Porsche is a (seriously) watered down solution.
Also, why not compare the Mercedes CLS's 3.5 liter V6 instead of the 4.6 V8?
I like the 6 Series Gran Coupe but like I said, not sure about the pricing.
"BMW says the 4+1 seater model is capable of delivering a 0 to 62 mph (0-100km/h) sprint time of 5.4 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h)."
I doubt it unless the thing has carbon fiber all over the place. It is the same 3.0 as the 3-series, this is undoubtedly heavier, I'm thinking at least 300lbs with the plusher seats and large wheelbase. Bigger everything.
I think this may be a 5sec car but 5.9, most likely a low 6. My I'm talking out my ass...
1) Did you really bring a knife to a gun fight? Chrysler vs BMW...just back away slowly dude
2) Same performance...ummm, you know the 300 SRT-8 is universally panned for having a shitty tranny right.
3) I guess you don't see any value in branding. Go buy some Panasupra batteries ya douche
3) Icon...um, maybe in Michigan.
4) This doesn't have a lick of Hyundai in it. You're talking out your ass bud
The 640i's 3.0L is slightly more powerful - 315hp vs 300hp, and 332 lb-ft vs 300 lb-ft. Not sure about the weight yet.
Your comment is the most biased, shockingly uneducated and emotionally challenged one I have ever seen on this blog. If you understand human nature, economics or society on *any* level you *must* know the significance of the style, image and status-credentials of a car. And you obviously don't. These cars cars are the long-awaited offerings for people who are required by their social position to drive expensive business cars, but feel crippled by the dull senor-mobiles that are the standard A6, A8, 5, 7 , E and S. This comes at a hefty price, but these particular customers are more happy to pay it as it brings exclusivity and glamour to match the modern business-playboy lifestyle that they strive for.
So, NO, they aren't "pure rolling pieces of EXPENSIVE trash", they are what most of the general population would consider to be the best and most desirable daily-drives ever made.
Us Yanks over here don't get the poor man's CLS. CLS550 is cheapest model available in the U.S.
Ah, my mistake on the V6 thing then.
Looks like Chrysler Corporation hacks are at it again. I wonder how
much money they spend paying people minimum wage to post comments on the
Internet, to talk up their junk.
Chrysler could build a comparable vehicle at a cost of around
$12-$15,000, but they won't, because they can make more money building a
car for $6-$8000 and selling it for $47,000.
This is the problem with allowing anonymous commenters, if you trace
this person's IP you'd probably find that they've posted similar
comments all around the Internet, and they're getting paid by one of the Chrysler Corporation's shell companies or affiliates.
I think the Beamer looks best, but if I were putting down my money I'd go with the Audi or the Porsche.
The Audi because it has all wheel drive and is a lower maintenance vehicle, and the Porsche, because well it's a Porsche, and is probably more fun to drive, though I wouldn't know that I've actually driven both.
That can't be right, the 650i has 407 or so horsepower, not 445
In U.S. spec, the 650i Coupe's V8 is currently rated at 400-horsepower but the Gran Coupe received an updated version called "N63Tü" with BMW’s VALVETRONIC
variable valve timing, which makes 445hp (a 45 hp increase), and peak torque of 480
lb-ft (a 30 lbs-ft increase).
That beemer is hella sexy though!
EPIC FAIL!
Bmw always overpriced when introduciong a new model, than they give huge discount and voucher for your next car purchase, this new 6 is not better than an Audi 7 at least the a7 has allwheel drive and has a personality .Te new 6 look like a 5 serie price should be north of the 60000
Indeed. As a 62 y.o. successful business owner I'm thrilled by this trend to make big, comfortable but great driving, fast cars with looks that kill. Driving toward retirement in either a boy racer staid sedan would not be my idea of fun. Started driving life in an real mini. Settled now for an infiniti m45. Ok...but no panamera, or S7. Love now having a batch of realistic cars i can dream about.
just FYI, chrysler is not exactly a great american car anymore, fiat, the "crappy" Italian has get its hand on it. so if you are keep up your biased shit, think twice
Wow....this article has generated the most mental masterbation of any Carscoop post I have ever seen. You can mouth off ad nauseum, but in the end every consumer has thier own opinion and motivatiion and will excersize their choice every company will sell a few cars.
Now you're a conspiracy wacko
In terms of beauty
1) BMW
2) Porche
3) Audi
4) Merc
