GM Tells Carscoop No LED Tail Lamps for North American Camaro

|

After we posted the poll on whether you prefer the updated European market 2012 Chevrolet Camaro with its LED taillights to the original model, we sent an email over to General Motors asking if the company had any plans to apply some or all of the upgrades to the North American version.

A Chevrolet spokesperson replied in an email that the automaker has no such plans and that a number of these changes were made to the European Camaro in order to meet local regulations.

"There are some minor changes between North American Camaro and cars for export markets," a Chevrolet spokesman told Carscoop. "Often, there are even variations between markets, to meet regional requirements. And, no, these changes will not be integrated into the U.S. Camaro."

Our Chevrolet contact went one step further listing all the changes made to the Euro Camaro:

- Europe only sells the V8 models and all include leather interior
- Euro beam front HID Headlamps with levelers and washers
- LED rear lamps to accommodate the specific Euro regulations for amber rear turns and rear fog lamps
- Larger folding outside rearview mirrors with integral side repeater lamps
- Front and rear tow hooks provisions in fascias
- Specific emissions and transmission calibrations
- Specific suspension tuning on the convertible models for Euro roads
- Specific radio with Traffic Assist feature and European frequencies
- Specific metric Speedometer
- Larger front license plate bracket

Why give people what they want?  I am sure the aftermarket will have a kit.

the v6 really should be an option for the euro spec.

My car feels so old since it doesn't have any LEDs =( I like the leds on audi's headlamps so much

Easy.  Just order it from European GM dealers.  It might cost more but at least you know it will fit.  Should fit.

I usually prefer LEDs, but the European design looks like a pair of sunglasses.

Sounds like the European version is better Hands down. Only comes with a V8, thats how it should be, otherwise call it something else.

"Headlamps with levelers and washers" sounds like a good feature, why not offer it here? The LED taillights look cool and why not offer rear fog lamps? I'll never get it why more cars don't offer them in the US. Finally all versions of the Camaro need to offer Auto climate control and Navigation, all competitors offer these features!I speak for all cars!
