The GS 250 is powered by a 2.5-liter V6 petrol engine delivering 206bhp while the GS 450h combines a 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 petrol engine with the Lexus Hybrid Drive for a total system output of 338bhp.

Lexus effectively decimates its sales in Europe due to a lack of diesel options on most of their cars.

Toyota Dumps said... »February 15, 2012

More of a problem that stems from Toyota rather than Lexus. Toyota has failed to invest strategically for improving their small diesel range, which in turn could have included Lexus.

The Toyota 2.2 (found in the Avensis) would be a strong base GS offering, if only they bothered to develop an auto box that could effectively handle an output higher than 150bhp.  Meanwhile the seriously outdated 3.0 (found in the Land Cruiser) if overhauled/replaced, could be designed with the GS ranger topper in mind as well.

Toyota are currently failing to roll-out diesel tech for larger vehicles. This will hit them in the long run, as many prestige manufacturers have invested in diesel tech progress for large vehicle ranges already, with that tech knowledge trickling down to their smaller vehicle ranges soon after.

They have the Hybrid which is much better than a diesel and it has more incentives.  Toyota has already sold Hybrid batteries to BMW in which in turn they will be developing more Hybrid cars. In return BMW has given Toyota 1.6 & 2.0 Diesel engines but will only appear in Toyota's. Toyota is focusing all resources on Hybrid technology which is why they are years ahead in that field.
